Finally, "The Sunshine State" is starting to reflect its branding... #DriveEnergyForward "Florida has long ranked a distant third place behind California and Texas in installed solar, but it’s now installing more solar panels than any other state — despite a policy landscape that’s considerably more challenging than in other states. The Sunshine State connected 2,499 megawatts of solar-generation capacity to the grid during the first half of 2023, blowing away the 1,648 megawatts added by California and the 1,292 megawatts added by Texas." https://lnkd.in/gsEbP2f7

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) has introduced the Renewable Roadsides Act, legislation which aims to start the process of transforming landscapes alongside federal highways to house increased solar energy infrastructure. The bill would direct the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to study the feasibility of developing solar energy generation and storage facilities, as well as electrical transmission and distribution infrastructure, on land adjacent to federal highways. House Bill 1467 has been introduced on the House Floor! This is a PA Solar Center bill which AIA Pennsylvania and Green Building United have been tracking and it expands the state’s Alternative Energy Portfolio Standard (AEPS) from 8% to 30% renewables by 2030, and finally opens the door for in-state community solar projects which are currently not permitted in PA. This bill is a game-changer for the state, and the PA Solar Center is asking all interested parties to fill out and sign this letter to be sent to elected officials in Harrisburg. The Alternative Energy Portfolio Standards Act of 2004 (AEPS) is Pennsylvania’s primary policy that has made measurable gains for Pennsylvania’s solar industry. Community solar is a business model that requires enabling legislation in Pennsylvania to allow solar projects to benefit multiple customers from an off-site solar array. In other states where community solar is permitted, electric customers can buy or lease a percentage of an off-site solar array and receive credit on their electric bills for the electricity generated commensurate with their share. The intent of the program is to provide the option for renters, homeowners, businesses, nonprofits, and others to benefit from locally generated solar because they may be restricted in their ability to install solar panels onsite for some reason Here is a link to fill out the form and sign the letter: https://lnkd.in/eKqMpsMg

The IRS has issued guidance for owners of certain solar or wind facilities built in connection with low-income communities. The Inflation Reduction Act provides for an increase in the energy investment credit for solar and wind facilities that apply for, and receive, an allocation of environmental justice solar and wind “capacity limitation.” Revenue Procedure 2024-19 provides clarifying changes to the application and documentation requirements for the 2024 year. In addition, it provides how the capacity limitation for the 2024 program year will be divided across facility categories described and the additional selection criteria application options. Remove the roadblocks for solar and storage. That's the message Solar Energy Industries Association and more than 200 companies sent to Congress last month in an open letter asking politicians to address key hurdles facing the industry. Here are the changes they want to see: 📄 Permitting: Streamline and standardize the process at the federal level to save time and money, and make renewable energy more accessible to all 📍 Siting: Encourage authorities to collaborate and find the best sites for solar and storage development to avoid conflicts ⚡ Transmission: Upgrade critical infrastructure to make it easier for solar and storage to connect to the grid and send clean energy over greater distances 🍃 Public lands: Make it easier to lease public lands for solar projects without sacrificing environmental protections What's the greatest barrier to solar and storage development in your work? #solarenergy #energystorage #renewableenergy #cleanenergy
