It’s Women in Construction Week, and we’re excited to highlight some of the women working across our organization! First is Roan Farsab, a field engineer on an oil, gas and chemical project in California. We asked her some questions about her experiences working in the industry. “As a woman in construction/engineering, what I enjoy most is the opportunity to inspire and empower other women to pursue careers in this field. I thrive on the challenge of breaking barriers and demonstrating that gender is not a limitation in achieving success. I find immense satisfaction in seeing our projects come to life, knowing that my contributions play a significant role in the company’s success." What advice do you have for women new to the industry? “My advice for newcomers is to stand up for yourself and your ideas. Understand that you are not alone, and your perspective is valuable. Don’t hesitate to ask questions, connect with others and voice your opinion. Thanks Brent Rees Devin Brown and team for inviting me to share my perspectives for International Women's Day. It certainly made me reflect on how we can inspire inclusion in our everyday lives – both personally and professionally. For me it comes down to two really important factors: 1. Be deliberate in championing and supporting those around you and helping them to realise their potential and stretch into new challenges. These nudges and support from whanau, those I have worked with and for, and industry colleagues, have been hugely influential in me taking on new challenges and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. 2. Set a standard of inclusive leadership. For me this means: - Adopting a learning mindset and seek input from those around you – demonstrating that we are all learning every day and no one has all the answers! - Build a diverse team and actively seek out alternative views. It is easy to believe your own narrative – aim to be challenged by a different perspective every day. I make better decisions when I do this! - Be uncomfortable and push yourself outside your comfort zone – giving others the confidence to do the same. - Really know your team and those you work with, what drives them, and what is important to them so you can more effectively support them and their aspirations. #iwd2024 #inspireinclusion

Women's participation in renewable energy is crucial: 💼 They represent 32% of full-time employees, however, only 28% of women hold STEM positions in this sector, indicating that there is still much work to be done to normalize their integration. 🧐 Obstacles in senior positions: the glass ceiling is a reality, with at least 75% of board members in almost half of the companies being men. In addition, almost two thirds of respondents believe that women in renewables earn less than men in similar roles. 🔍 Benefits of equity in the energy transition: Ensuring equal accessibility broadens perspectives in decision-making and ensures a fair distribution of socio-economic benefits.
