Last month, WSPA hosted the Women's Energy Network California event to discuss the unspoken aspects of California's race to net zero. The conversation was led by WSPA’s own Senior Vice President of Government Affairs and Chief Operating Officer, Jodie Muller, CAE and Senior Principal Engineer of Geosyntec Consultants, Lynn McGuire who discussed the current energy issues at hand, and our path forward. Some key insights of the event include:
- When it comes to our state's ambitious drive towards net zero, it's crucial to carve out space for transitional thinking. While we excel at setting goals, we're falling short in devising realistic and equitable plans to actualize them.
- Achieving our monumental climate goals demands the engagement of the sharpest minds, yet the current exclusion of the oil and gas industry from these crucial conversations is a glaring oversight. This industry boasts some of the most brilliant problem-solvers, with a solid track record of executing large-scale projects and making substantial investments in alternative, renewable, and increasingly cleaner energy sources.
- Realizing any monumental goal necessitates a diversity of perspectives. We not only require greater gender parity but also a more inclusive representation of individuals from diverse ethnicities, backgrounds, and experiences.
