It's been just over a week since I started my new role at Zafin. The first few days in a new company can feel overwhelming in so many aspects. Getting to know your colleagues, learning about your product, the industry, and all nuances that come with it. It hasn't been any different for me. But here I am, a few days in, and I'm already starting to get in my stride. I am: ✅ Being looped in on key projects. ✅ Calling the shots in some critical business areas. ✅ Making crucial contributions to my team. Yes, onboarding must happen in parallel, but here are some tips I've found that have helped me hit the ground running: 1️⃣ Networking is key: Get yourself in front of others as much as you can. Set up 1-1 with folks inside and outside your team. Getting face time with them through introductory chats is key to building a solid working relationship. 2️⃣ Play the newbie card: Tell everyone you're new, use the newbie card to your advantage, and ask as many questions as you want. It shows you’re eager to learn. 3️⃣ Offer (genuinely) to help out: Ask direct questions to your team members, your peers, your boss, or cross-functional leaders like “What area are you struggling in?” or “Is there any gap you're looking to fill?” or “Is there anything I can take off your plate?” - these are key as it shows you're here to HELP THEM. “Put your money where your mouth is.” they say. So this is one of the moments in life where a sentence like that becomes reality. At least for me it is. I have been lucky to have been driving transformational branding and commercial growth processes for all kinds of brands, both in Scandinavia and in Europe for almost two decades. For one of those brands, a specialist fintech player focusing on tech-driven niche banking and insurance, I have been a part of the brand's inception, startup phase, scaling and growing phase, and strategic development over the past 7(!) years. 🥷🏼 Little did i know that the management team turned the assignments into the longest job-interview process known to mankind. 😊😊 I have always loved companies that don’t stand still, firms that dare to challenge, little players that aspire to be big, and outliers that see opportunity where others see barriers. And this is definitely one of them. This thing is going places, scaling in more countries, broader financial products and solutions portfolio for both private and corporate clients, and it will be part of my job to make sure this happens as fast, and as profitable as possible. So now, it is time to step down from leading The Brand Project, hand it over to Carina Åkredalen Løvbræk, and start this new chapter. Liru Chan has joined MoneyHero Group as our new Group Head of Marketing, while François Picard Picard has joined as our new Group Head of Operations. As Group Head of Marketing, Liru will be responsible for leading consumer marketing and brand development across the MoneyHero portfolio, as well as for adding significant value to the company’s broader sales and customer engagement. Liru joins MoneyHero from Google (APAC), where she served as Head of Growth (Owned User Experience) since 2021. Prior to Google, Liru held senior roles with Visa, where she was Head of Marketing (Singapore), PayPal, and Edelman. Francois will be responsible for scaling and improving the Company’s enterprise-wide operations to better support MoneyHero’s next chapter of growth as a public company. “The tricky thing about product is that everyone always has an opinion on what can be done to improve it, whether it’s right or wrong. So for me, it’s really making sure I give candid yet respectful feedback when I talk to people. That way, they are engaged and can better understand the reasoning behind why we designed things the way they are, and why their suggestion may or may not be feasible. Through that process, I learn as well. There may be things I’ve overlooked or hadn’t considered, so it is important to keep an open mind. Great product ideas don’t always originate from the product team. It could originate from anywhere. We’re not the only ones thinking about the customer journey and user experience — good ideas come in from all across the business. I have no ego. All I care about is ensuring Bluevine builds great experiences for our customers.” In our latest Leader Spotlight Interview, I spoke with Herman Man, Chief Product Officer at Bluevine, a digital banking platform for small businesses.
