Who's attention are you trying to attract with your content, and how do you figure out what they care about? The guys at AirBNB have spoken about how, early on, they did things that didn't scale. - Meeting with customers in person - Getting first-hand qualitative data on what they liked and didn't like about the product. On their way to building a 130k newsletter, Growth Design did that with content. They treated it like a product. In their words, 'the first 50 subscribers were hard to get.' So, whilst they were small, they did that kind of research that doesn't scale. They created a Slack channel where every single signup was listed and enriched using data pulled from Clearbit. Then, they researched those people, looked at their LinkedIn profiles, and created a really personal email asking them why they subscribed and what they wanted to see more of. I'm guessing they then got on Zoom calls, gathering even more insight and language. Learning what gets the attention of the ideal fit customer. From there, figuring out what to write to attract attention (and how) becomes obvious. Your customers told you.
