As technology continues to evolve at the speed of light and make access to data increasingly available, how does rail keep pace? RailPulse seeks to answer this question and modernize rail shipping for today’s world and beyond. To better understand the progress RailPulse has made and what opportunities lie ahead, we spoke with two individuals from RailPulse member organizations: Terry McDermott, director of supply chain – North American rail at Bunge, and Paul Titterton, executive vice president and president, rail North America, at GATX. Priority Paper Launched for RIA London & South. Earlier this week at the Railway Industry Association's London & South Summit, Ryan Anderson, Chair of RIA L&S and Bryony Goldsmith FRICS, Vice-Chair of RIA L&S launched the RIA London & South Priority Paper. The paper sets out three clear priorities for the region and outlines what the RIA London & South Leadership Group have done and plan to do to move them forward. These priorities are: • The Future of Rail, • Securing Investment, and • Client-Supplier Relationships The paper also provides market and political commentary and outlines key stakeholder information. The London & South Leadership Group comprises c.35 RIA member companies representing a cross-section of the rail supply chain from across the region. Over the last twelve months, workstreams have been established to address each of the priorities. This has included in-depth research, working groups, extensive stakeholder engagement with clients and members from across the region to draw on their experience and knowledge. The recent announcements and the Ministers commitments to rail projects at Bradford, and to NPR generally, were encouraging Henri Murison. Looking forward: there are lessons to be learned in how we select-plan-fund-deliver-commit to infrastructure projects. Given the recognition and acceptance, that such investments are catalysts for the improvement of numerous socio-economic factors, not least generating employment and skills opportunities that previously didn’t exist, it’s important that momentum is maintained to realise the transformation we frequently discuss. Don't forget! The 2024 America’s Transportation Awards competition is now accepting nominations through this Friday, April 19. Now in its 17th year, this program aims to showcase the exceptional work state DOTs are undertaking daily. Their efforts enhance the quality of life, drive economic development, leverage innovative technologies, programs, and processes, and ultimately foster safer communities. Sponsored by AASHTO, AAA, and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the competition this year features a new safety category and increases the number of projects a state DOT can nominate to four (instead of the traditional three). Each state DOT may submit a total of four entries (bonus points are allotted to states that submit three different projects–one per category). It was great to welcome the Member of Parliament for Swansea East, Carolyn Harris MP to the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence earlier today. GCRE Chair Dr Debra Williams and Chief Executive Simon Jones showed Carolyn and her team the 700-hectare GCRE site and the plans we have to develop Europe's premier facility for rail and mobility research, testing and innovation on it. GCRE is a strategically important economic development project for South West Wales. The high quality new jobs and skills opportunities GCRE will create will be important to the areas future, even more so in the context of the significant challenges caused by job losses at the nearby Tata steelworks in Port Talbot. Having high quality innovation infrastructure in the region will act as a magnet for businesses, academia, start-ups and the rail and mobility supply chain, many of who will naturally gravitate to use and be near a facility and infrastructure quite unlike anything else in Europe. GCRE is a strong example of the kind of long-tern industrial strategy that we need to do more of in the coming years to sustainably grow the UK economy and it was great to discuss these important issues with Carolyn. #GCRE #GlobalCentreOfRailExcellence #Innovation #EconomicDevelopment
