Trinity Metro is excited to partner with Mayor Parker and stakeholders on the new Urban Rail Committee. We believe a fixed rail system connecting entertainment districts has the potential to boost ridership, economic development, and tourism. We look forward to collaborating to determine the best fixed rail solution for Fort Worth's growing population. Thanks to Fort Worth Report for this coverage. https://lnkd.in/guR_aXcg

From western Europe to the Middle East to east Asia, diverse countries are investing in “rapid regional rail” systems that allow residents to commute across metro areas at high speeds. So far, the US has been slow to get on board the trend. Advocacy groups or government agencies have put forward plans to create rapid regional rail-style systems in New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Washington, DC, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay area. But none have been fully constructed and implemented. For supporters of rapid regional rail, one of the biggest challenges has been explaining these projects to an American public with a siloed view of urban mass transit. https://lnkd.in/ey45dGaC

"Even as suburban sprawl, supercommuting rates and housing unaffordability expand the footprint of places like Houston and Phoenix, the focus generally remains firmly on highways and private vehicle travel, with a few light rail lines here and there. But none have been fully constructed and implemented. WIN!! In our letter to the council last year, HUB Cycling encouraged the Council to consider removing minimum off-street parking requirements. By eliminating parking minimums, the city has taken a step towards creating a more equitable and sustainable urban environment. This approach allows developers to determine the appropriate amount of parking spaces, aligning with the actual needs of the community rather than adhering to outdated and excessive standards. We also emphasized the positive impact of this recommendation toward advancing the goals outlined in the Climate Emergency Action Plan (CEAP). As our city commits to reducing carbon pollution by 50% by 2030, it is essential to encourage modes of transportation that contribute to this objective. By supporting active transportation and transit use, the removal of parking minimums aligns with the broader vision of a sustainable and environmentally conscious Vancouver. https://lnkd.in/gNKa2aYH
It's unanimous!!! The City of Vancouver has now eliminated minimum off-street parking requirements for all uses CITYWIDE. 🎉 It has been my great pleasure to support Senior Transportation Planning Engineer Lysa Morishita in this work over the past few years. It's not an exaggeration to say that the positive impacts of this decision will continue to be felt for generations and will lead us to a much more livable city in the future. There are numerous benefits to the removal of minimums: o Process simplification and de-regulation - eliminating the need to calculate and validate complex parking requirements o Increasing the number of financially viable projects o Helping to increase viability of non-market rental projects and lowering unit prices at strata projects o Prioritizing investment in walking, cycling, transit, and car share o Enabling a reduction in embodied carbon Looking forward to seeing many more cities joining us on this pathway! And happy to talk with those interested in building the case for eliminating 🅿 minimums.

The focus of the study is to look at transit, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. That could include transit amenities, such as bus pull-offs and/or shelters, or recommendations for closing gaps in the bicycle and pedestrian network.

In Los Angeles, single-passenger vehicle trips and heavy traffic are the norm, but dated and unreliable rail systems kept people from choosing transit. Learn how Arcadis supported LA Metro through the construction of the Regional Connector, a rail expansion that added three stations and used tunneling to connect them to the existing infrastructure. The Regional Connector will minimize transfers and save 20-30 minutes off cross-county trips. #improvingqualityoflife #rail #mobility

It looks like Brisbane is going to head down the same "road" as Sydney and Melbourne in building ever more road tunnels, designing the city around the car, instead of for people. Regions (like Wales) and cities that have woken up to the need for liveability, are moving in the opposite direction - ceasing all highway development and closing down roads, to focus on public and active transport. https://lnkd.in/gFpcqxhW

Metro Vancouver stands at a crucial juncture in shaping its 🚊 transportation future amidst rapid population growth and housing challenges. By leveraging development to fund construction costs and prioritizing cost-effectiveness, the region can meet the needs of its growing population. Gabriel J. Lopez-Bernal, President of Icomera North America, recently sat down with Bridgitte Anderson, ICD.D, President and CEO of the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade, and Lee Haber, Director of Strategy and Partnerships, at Mountain Valley Express (MVX), at the CityAge Vancouver Summit, to explore strategies for fostering an affordable and sustainable transportation landscape. 🎤 "Vancouver is a city where ideas meet decisions." - Michael Buda, Executive Director of the TransLink Mayors’ Council Secretariat, as he opened the Summit as the MC. 🎤 “As our cities grow, attracting people to public transportation becomes increasingly important. To do that you need to make their ride safe and enjoyable, which means improving the user experience in every way possible. You can do that by adding digital connectivity through reliable internet access every rider can use.” - Miro Cernetig, CEO of CityAge 📑 -> Article: Navigating the Future: Metro Vancouver's Blueprint for Sustainable Transportation and Housing. #vancouver #transit #cityage #buildthefuture

💛🖤Let’s Get the City Moving Forward 💛🖤 No surprise to many about the cancellation of the structure of LGWM as it was more a question of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’. Signs where there even mid year under the previous government. An extra layer of an unwanted, costly and unconnected bureaucratic layer has now been removed. In terms of the Golden Mile and other LGWM’ transitional projects, Wellington City Council needs to seize the opportunity now, get back around the table with local business and find a way forward that everyone can afford to move the city forward. I hope everyone is up for this. From a transport perspective, ultimately we need more people in less vehicles as the city and region grows. We can do this plus still help people move through and around the city much more efficiently, taking a more pragmatic and affordable approach that doesn’t penalise those with limited choices.

Melbourne's new Metro Railway Service is expected to mirror the remarkable success of Sydney's recent Metro, with transformative effects on urban landscapes. Sydney's Metro evolved into a national and international tourism hotspot in a matter of weeks from opening, thanks to its stunning underground stations and art installations. The City of Melbourne anticipates a similar outcome, especially given its iconic Melbourne Central, a major urban project drawing over 40 million visitors annually ( despite the severity and loss of over 500,000 footfall in the CBD of Melbourne per week) Adjacent to the renowned Melbourne Central Underground station, the new Metro Railway station is poised to be a game-changer. It will showcase a seamless blend of heritage preservation and modern infrastructure. This initiative, like my initiative to preserve the Historic "Shot Tower," is instrumental in creating a unique urban identity, sparking substantial investments, and revitalizing Melbourne's cityscape. It creates a "sense of place" that is hard to achieve and drives "repeat visitation." As a seasoned "Placemaker," I take pride in steering significant urban transformations in Melbourne. This is evident in Melbourne Central's unparalleled success with full occupancy and top-tier retail performance, which has become a catalyst factor for over $9bn of new investment in a previously neglected precinct of the City of Melbourne. Today, amidst the buzz of the AFL Grand Final, Melbourne Central stands as a bustling hub, attracting visitors and tourists alike and solidifying its status as a premier retail and tourism destination in Australia. My proven Placemaker and deep understanding of creating retail destinations were evident during the late 1970s in an off-pitch retail location, creating the "Gallerie Shopping Centre" at 20 Gawler Place. This was Australia's first major Food Court, and the Gallerie Food Affair peaked at its first Christmas with over 60,000 meals. It's hard to imagine a major retail centre in Australia today without a Food Court. The "Gallerie Food Affair" had many firsts, including Wendy's Supa Sundaes and other retail innovations, including the World's first RM William's CBD store. #MelbourneCentral #UrbanRenewal #Harropfactor #Placemaker #SocialResponsibility #Destination #MelbourneMetro
