The Climate Boot Camp - an invitation repost from Rick Schumann A group from the Climate Reality Project along with the Harvard Alumni for the Climate and Environment have developed a resource freely available to everyone which has highly curated information and media about climate change and solutions. The resource is self guided but every two months we put on a Boot Camp to guide people through it and provide a place to network with others who share your passion. The resource can be found at https://www.ecoactus.org Boot Camp is a two week event with three virtual meetings for participants. Today we had the final networking session for January’s Boot Camp and I wanted to share how impactful these networking sessions have become. People from all over the world join in and, after brief introductions, we go into breakout rooms for small group discussions. In the breakout room, people share what they are doing in their part of the world to address the climate crisis. In my breakout room today we had people from the US, several African nations and India. We talked about recycling and composting and shared the challenges that we each had in our respective part of the world. I have been a facilitator in many of these networking sessions and I am constantly amazed at how grateful people are to share their experiences with other people from around the world. I learn something new every time and people make real connections that they pursue after Boot Camp is over to form coalitions which address climate solutions in their communities. I would urge all Climate Reality Leaders to visit the link I provided and sign up for a Boot Camp session. The EcoActUs platform has recently been updated to include technical tracks covering Water Systems and Regenerative Agriculture and gets high marks from all who attend. The next Boot Camp is coming up in March but the EcoActUs platform is available anytime for self guided exploration. 📢Communicate with Impact When I create my company, I was not expected to ritch the international market. I never imagine myself doing trainigs in english and spanish but to be honest it's been a great challenge and experience. Doing public presentations could be challenging but with the right tools and mindset we can create deep impact and make the difference in the audience. In this training we practice presentations about world warming, the impact in the sustentability of our life quality, in the maintenance of some animal species and how we can do small changes in our daily life to amke our world better and a safe place to live in the future. During the training someone ask me: "Do you also learn while you train?" The answer is obvious, I always learn a lot. After a great evening facilitating the Climate Fresk USA at the Consulate of France in New York, I am happy to do it again for all Audencia Alumni next Tuesday for our #AudenciaAroundTheWorld event! 🗽 What is the Climate Fresk? The Climate Fresk is based on a deck of 42 cards taken from the IPCC's scientific reports. It is a fun and collaborative way of raising awareness about climate issues. Climate Fresk is a powerful tool for providing quality climate education. It is accessible to anyone and can be scaled quickly within an organization or community. Why would I join? To learn, understand, take action, build solutions, and be part of this change that is urgently needed, we first need to understand the problem.  You don't need to be an expert but we need you and your brain to activate the group’s collective intelligence.  You will take an active role in the building-up of the Fresk, and link the causes and effects of climate change, to take a step back and understand the systemic nature of the challenges. How does it work?  In just 3 hours, the collaborative Climate Fresk workshop will teach you the fundamental science behind climate change and empower you to take action. It brings together participants and calls on their creativity and collective intelligence to reconstruct the links between the various components of climate change, understand what we are talking about and initiate changes in behavior or attitudes.  A facilitator supervises the teams to guide them through the workshop, ensures good communication between members, and provides additional explanations. Process: 🧠 Reflection (1hr 30mins): Discover and link the cards to co-construct the fresk. 🎨 Creativity (20mins): Decompress, take ownership of the mural and create team spirit by illustrating it. 💬 Debrief (1hr 10mins): Share emotions, questions and explore individual and collective solutions. WOW! It was a surreal experience attend the final for the world’s most prestigious environmental prize - The Earthshot Prize. Firstly, a huge congratulations to all the finalists and winners. You have developed solutions which can tackle some of the most challenging aspects of the climate crisis and built inclusive approaches to decarbonising hard to abate sectors. The Earthshot Prize has made a huge impact on the development of Low Carbon Materials (LCM) and I have no doubt it will do the same for you. Secondly, well done to this year’s winners: Protect & Restore Nature: Acción Andina Clean our Air: GRST Revive our Oceans: WildAid Build a Waste-Free World: S4S Technologies Fix Our Climate: Boomitra Overall, learning more about each solution to tackle the climate crisis has left me feeling inspired and ready for further action. We can all help take the next step and become the early adopters we so desperately need to scale these solutions…quickly!

🌍🚀 Exciting News from My Week! 🚀🌍 I am thrilled to share that I had the incredible opportunity to participate in a "Train the Trainer" session on Climate Fresk this week! 🌱🌿 Climate Fresk is an innovative and engaging workshop designed to help participants understand the complexities of climate change through a collaborative and visual approach. As a new certified trainer, I am now equipped to facilitate these impactful workshops and contribute to raising awareness and fostering action on climate change. Here are a few highlights from my experience: 🔍 Deepened Understanding: The session provided in-depth insights into the science behind climate change and its far-reaching impacts. It was enlightening to see how interconnected and complex the issues are. 🤝 Collaborative Learning: Working with a diverse group of passionate individuals was truly inspiring. We shared knowledge, perspectives, and solutions, reinforcing the power of collective action. 🎨 Innovative Methodology: The visual and interactive nature of Climate Fresk makes it an effective tool for engaging different audiences, from students to professionals, and driving meaningful discussions. 🌱 Exciting update! After three incredible years with All Day, I've decided to embark on a new journey dedicated to working on climate head-on. I'm beyond grateful for my time at All Day and working alongside some of the brightest and passionate colleagues in food tech. A special shoutout to all of the hardworking engineers, operators, and chefs that I had the opportunity to learn from. I’ll be cheering from the sidelines. A massive thanks to mentor and phenomenal leader Cris Valerio for launching me into the exciting and wild world of product 🚀 What’s next? I started my journey as a Terra.do Learning for Action (LFA) fellow two weeks ago, and feeling deeply energized to channel my skills and creativity into working on our world’s most urgent and critical problem. Although not even scratching the surface of what I’ve learned thus far, here are two highlights 💡: - 🌎 Climate Science 101 lecture by Dr. Chip Fletcher: Dr. Fletcher's direct and impassioned teaching style makes it impossible to ignore the urgency and need for collective and urgent action. Dr. Fletcher discussed everything from our planet’s unstable temperatures, population displacement, global security, consumer behavior, and the need to redefine our relationship with nature. He emphasizes that the next decade is pivotal in climate action. - 💚 Emotional Resilience Workshop with Nikyta Palmisani: Nikyta explored the process of naming and talking about the emotions associated with climate action - be it eco-anxiety, eco-paralysis, eco-grief, eco-guilt, or eco-anger (Glenn Albrecht coins this "Terrafurie"). Validating that that these feelings are real and shared by humanity is one of the first steps to building a sustainable practice for working on climate change. #AlGore and Climate Truths - some thoughts post attending the #ClimateReality Leadership programme in Rome. Mid-way through former US Vice-President Al Gore’s two and a half hour presentation, at the Climate Reality Project’s session in Rome, the young student beside me is on his phone double-checking Gore’s age. At 76, Gore’s energy, stamina and brain power is remarkable. His presentation, at the three day climate leadership event, is like a live, up-to-date version of Gore’s 2006 documentary film An Inconvenient Truth.  He launched the #ClimateRealityProject 18 years ago using profits from the film. Today it claims a 3.5 million network with 11 branches across 192 countries. Rome, at the end of June, was Gore’s 56th leadership training event, with a thousand participants there, mostly from southern Europe. In appearance it was like a big, international conference except once you are accepted the conference is free and you just cover travel and accommodation. For Gore's team the focus in bringing so many in Rome was to consolidate climate leadership in a region seen as a global hot-spot. In 2022 the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) described the region as having multiple interconnected climate change risks. Land surface temperatures have already increased by 1.5C degrees over pre-industrial levels and could rise to 5.6C degrees by close of century. As if to underscore the theme Rome was on its second heatwave and the nightly news was full of flash floods devastation. A theme for Gore is calling out the fossil fuel industry for climate delay and deflection tactics and pushing replacement pipelines like LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), “methane is worse than coal” . #CarbonCaptureStorage (CCS) is he says “much better at capturing politicians than emissions”. But despite that cutting edge ‘stop fossil fuels now’ message, the elephant in the room is perhaps the lack of attention to systemic socio-economic change and challenge to consumerism and continuous growth model that underscores fossil fuel dependency. Gore’s message is to focus on accelerating #renewables pointing to the untapped potential in Africa to harvest #solar. Climate Reality Project is non-political but while that makes sense as an umbrella movement it does exclude a political analysis of climate change. Bringing people together in solidarity and collaboration is its driver. By day three Gore’s opening keynote slideshow is compressed to a 10 minute capsule #TruthinTen. It hangs on three questions: “Must We Change? Can We Change? Will We Change?”. It’s data heavy, puts bad news first and has few first person stories. But it’s a powerful call to action. "Speak truth to power like your world depends on it, ‘cos your world depends on it”, he says, ending with poet Wallace Stevens' line  “After the final no there comes a yes  and on that yes the future of the world hangs”. #AlGore #Climate #TruthinTen #ClimateSolutions #Italy #COP29 #ClimateCommunications #CCS
