It's always a thrill to be quoted in The New York Times! See Julie Creswell's great piece calling out 20 major food companies like McDonald's, Starbucks, Tyson Foods & Brazilian beef giant JBS for backsliding, underreporting or failing to disclose their true net zero & climate emissions.
In The New York Times, I'm quoted as saying: “We believe they [JBS] have significant emissions, but they have very little accountability for reporting, having targets, sticking to those targets and having those targets verified externally,” said Alex Wijeratna, senior director of the global protein campaign at Mighty Earth, a climate advocacy organization.
Given the climate emergency & the supersized emissions from its links to outrageous Amazon deforestation & belched out throughout JBS's vast global meat supply chains, Creswell highlights the shocking fact that meatpacking industry leader JBS currently doesn't disclose or report any 'Scope 3' GHG emissions figures in its latest JBS Sustainability Report 2022 - despite the fact that 'Scope 3' supply chain emissions - which include CO2 from deforestation & methane from the vast number of cattle it slaughters - represent 90% of JBS's GHG emissions & that JBS's estimated annual emissions (some 288 mmt CO2e) are greater than Spain's!
No wonder a global coalition of top CSOs - including Amazon Watch, Rainforest Action Network, Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth, Global Witness, ClientEarth, IATP, SOMO & World Animal Protection - are stepping up their campaign & investor outreach to halt JBS's proposed IPO & dual listing on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) over the coming weeks & months - a financial event that we've described as the greatest climate-risk IPO going.

3wHey guys - We've been trying to get a hold of someone at TreeHouse sales and have made no progress. The phone number goes to a call center who has no direct communication with the sales team. They transfer the call to sales and it goes straight to voicemail. We've also filled out the site form and sent over emails. No responses. Can you reach out to us please? We'd like you to produce private labeled chocolate for us. TreeHouse Foods
