The National Institute of Justice (NIJ) recently funded Development Services Group, Inc., to evaluate a promising nationwide U.S. Department of Justice–funded program to combat hate, “Not in Our Town.” DSG nonprofit partner, the Institute for Community Studies (ICS), will carry out the work, under the tutelage of Dr. Stephen V. Gies, DSG’s—and ICS’s—director of research and evaluation. The three-year study will begin on Jan. 1, 2024.   Not in Our Town (NIOT) was developed in response to the 2018 mass shooting at Pittsburgh. Pa.’s Tree of Life Synagogue. ICS is evaluating the NIOT Hate and Bias Action Teams candidate model.   NIOT uses film and other media to educate, raise awareness, and spark dialog, with the goal of helping diverse community groups expand the impact of their mutual engagement. Agency Partner News | Arc4Justice In alignment with their statewide efforts to advance racial equity in the homeless response system, ARC4Justice will be launching a pilot project that will provide coaching, learning opportunities, and support to five selected CoCs as they begin to revise and refine their assessment and prioritization process with a strong emphasis on racial equity. Five diverse communities in Michigan will be selected based on their commitment and capacity to advance racial equity in the coordinated entry system and their willingness to engage in an equitable and inclusive process. This is some incredible work being done by WLFN. This is what governance looks like in action. These types of views expressed in the image, though, are very common. Whether you express them or not, your lsck of actions and voice as an Indigenous person have the same outcome as these explicit voices. When you hire natives on a token basis. When you propose agreements meant to extinguish the practice of Indigenous Rights. When you hire lawyers to fight against natives. When you support anti-Indigenous politicians. When you tell a native that they should hold more white values and see things from a non-Indigenpus perspective. All of these things, we know it when we see it because we experience it on a daily basis - they are all anti-Indigenous views and you don't have to say it out loud for us to know it.

A Call for Unity and Safety in Our Community Community Members, I hope this letter finds you in good health and spirits, despite the challenging times we find ourselves in. Today, I write to you with a heavy heart, as we mourn the loss of an Oakland police officer who tragically lost their life while on duty. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the impact that gun violence can have on our communities. I understand that there is a strain in our community when it comes to the relationship between law enforcement and the community. However, when a life is taken so tragically, it affects each and every one of us. It is during times like these, when tensions are high and hearts are heavy, that we must come together as a community. I implore both community members and law enforcement officers to take a pause during these trying times. Let us prioritize safety and unity above all else. It is crucial that we work towards building bridges of understanding and trust between law enforcement and the community. By doing so, we can create a safer and more harmonious environment for all. I also ask that we keep the affected families in our thoughts and prayers. They are going through unimaginable pain and loss, and it is our duty as a community to support them in any way we can. Let us extend our compassion and empathy to those who have been impacted by today's tragic events. In the face of adversity, it is important that we stand together as a united community. Let us not allow this incident to further divide us, but instead, let it serve as a catalyst for positive change. Together, we can work towards creating a safer and more inclusive community for everyone. Please stay safe during these challenging times, and remember to look out for one another.
