By 2030, automation and AI are expected to impact 1.2 billion employees globally, with nine out of ten jobs requiring digital skills. To ensure today’s young people are ready for tomorrow’s workforce, the EquipYouth program—initiated by IYF and the Caterpillar Foundation—has made significant progress. Implemented in 14 countries across three continents, this program focuses on equipping youth with essential skills through targeted technical training and vocational education. The roundtable explored how partnerships between corporations, foundations, multilateral organizations, and local leaders can develop sustainable solutions to address the regional skills gap. In her remarks, MS. Jacqueline Mugo Secretary General of BUSINESSAfrica, during the world youth skills day pointed out efforts in bridging skills gap as follows; 1. Collaborates with employers to provide workplace training and runs apprenticeship programs. 2. Organisations to work closely with governments, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to develop and implement policies that support youth employment and skills development. 3. Provision of career guidance and counseling services to help young people make informed decisions about their career paths. 4. Advocacy for policies that promote youth employment and address barriers to entry into the labour market. 5. Enhancement of TVET programs to ensure they are responsive to the needs of the labour market. 6. Research and data collection on labour market trends, skills gaps, and youth employment. It's International Youth Day: today and everyday we stand with and for young people. Today we want to highlight the support needed by young people as they enter the workplace. Our research has made us alive to the risks facing young people not in education, employment or training. But we know what works: > the more holistic, integrated and structured approaches are the most effective in helping young people to enter the workplace > work placements with *sustained post-placement support* are key to facilitating the labour market entry of young people. Somehow, this year's SMW left me with a really deep impression of MPA's CE Mr Teo after he gave his speech in the Accelerating Digitalisation & Decarbonisation conference, and I couldn't have felt more certain of the direction that I'm heading towards as a non-maritime background student. I feel that the industry leaders are promising, and so are the many contributors who have collectively made it so. Just by looking at the amount of initiatives and number of innovative projects that one of the biggest industry player (MPA for this instance) is working on and we know that there are going to be way more prospects to this industry. (Like you would be wondering omg what has maritime got to do with the space domain?🤔😂) But yes, MPA is developing a Satellite Resource Management Platform (SRMP) to capture satellite images for time-critical missions quickly. (Read more from www.mpa.gov.sg) The sheer amount of opportunities available in this industry for those who are eager is unimaginable, especially for those who unfortunately do not get enough exposure to the maritime industry. I am always gratitude towards how accommodating the industry has been towards me and am impelled to put-forth the same conviction with my fellow peers. Cheers~
