Transport Minister Barbara Creecy D visited the Ports of Port Elizabeth and Ngqura in Gqeberha today as part of her oversight activities for Transport Month, observed annually in October. During the visit, Transnet management briefed the Minister on initiatives to enhance operational efficiencies at the ports. Transnet is implementing a comprehensive fleet renewal programme, spanning short, medium, and long-term goals. It involves replacing and refurbishing critical equipment, including ship-to-shore cranes (STS), rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs), and rail-mounted gantry cranes at multiple ports, as part of Transnet’s Recovery Plan. #OTMSA2024 #TransnetCares #TransnetTransportMonth

Transnet Group Chief Executive Michelle Phillips participated in the 2024 #JoburgIndaba at the Indaba Club in Sandton. During a panel discussion, she discussed efforts to restore infrastructure and boost capacity on rail networks, and outlined that the first phase of the #TransnetRecoveryPlan focused on stabilisation and improvement amid various challenges. Mr. Nes Ruwo, CFA®, Principal Syndication & Distribution at the Development Bank of Southern Africa (DBSA), delivered a presentation on funding transport infrastructure. He outlined the process of capital deployment for infrastructure projects, emphasising key elements such as supporting infrastructure development, facilitating the shift from road to rail, promoting integration, and leveraging Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to encourage private sector participation. Ruwo also discussed transport sector projects, focusing on DBSA's strategy to continue supporting government and municipal initiatives.
