Today marks the Energy Day at #COP28 where discussions will focus on fossil fuel reductions. Kerogen-CelerateX will be advocating for growing investment in lower-carbon sources to ensure energy security. Attention must turn to low-carbon baseload energy, such as nuclear, to ensure a secure and decarbonised energy network. Given the limitations on intermittent renewable generation and battery capacity nuclear is a key technology which can provide always-on, round-the-clock power. With technological and safety advances, as well as growing regulatory support, there is ample opportunity for growth in this sector. With President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron and United States Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry announcing 22 nations agreed to tripling nuclear energy capacity by 2050, we are already seeing first successes coming from COP28. GE HITACHI SIGNS MOUS FOR UK SMR DEPLOYMENT GE Hitachi Nuclear Energy (GEH) has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Aecon Group Inc., AtkinsRéalis, Jacobs, and Laing O'Rourke, marking significant progress in its potential deployment of BWRX-300 small modular reactor technology in the UK. These partnerships aim to leverage expertise from Canada's Darlington New Nuclear Project and enhance design capabilities for the UK market. The MoUs build on GEH's existing collaboration with Sheffield Forgemasters and are part of the company's strategy to develop a robust UK supply chain, strengthening their position to deliver the BWRX-300 technology efficiently and cost-effectively. This development follows GEH's recent £33.6 million grant from the UK's Future Nuclear Enabling Fund and its entry into the Generic Design Assessment process. EXCITING NEWS! 😮 Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant IS WORKING ON AN OUTSTANDING PROJECT! 💡   The largest task facing the Ignalina Nuclear Power Plant is dismantling nuclear reactors of the RMBK type, which is an essential step in guaranteeing the safety of the environment. 🔧 THE CHALLENGE: Ignalina NPP faces challenges in decommissioning activities of its reactors, which are geographically divided into R1, R2, and R3 zones. The Ignalina NPP specialists have prepared engineering and licensing documents for the dismantling R1 and R2 zones, but NO ONE has dismantled RBMK reactor core (R3) before. 😯   🤝 COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS: The careful preparation and licensing of technological solutions are crucial for efficient dismantling operations and waste management in the engineering concept. 👨🔧   Major international nuclear energy businesses, such as Westinghouse Electric Spain, Lithuanian Energy Institute, and Electricite de France, have signed contracts with Ignalina NPP for reactor disassembly technology design services.   In order to ensure a high-quality outcome and manage any hazards, INPP has worked with the French business Bureau Veritas Exploitation SAS to investigate reactor core disassembly options. 💡 Tractebel-supported molten salt reactor project receives 10 million euros from the French government! THORIZON has just been granted funds in the framework of France 2030, the French nuclear innovation program.   🤝 Last February, Tractebel signed a strategic three-year partnership with the company to support the development of the advanced modular reactor (AMR), Thorizon One molten salt reactor. Our experts will provide engineering services including support on the conceptual design, computational modelling, cost estimates and design reviews.   🎤 "We are proud to support Thorizon in developing a Generation IV reactor. This ground-breaking technology will close the fuel cycle and make the circular economy a reality in the nuclear sector.
