October 2nd 2023 : Today is a significant day for Better Cotton, as we officially launch our traceability solution says Better Cotton CEO Alan McClay. Our solution enables our Members to source Better Cotton from a specific country with confidence by tracing it to the country level. Against the backdrop of growing demand from consumers and legislators for transparency around the origin of raw materials, this is an increasingly important priority for retailers and brands. Industry body and member network Better Cotton has found itself in an ongoing controversy after a critical follow up to an unfavourable report. And despite being a tech investment on the surface, brands and retailers should be focusing on reducing returns, not just facilitating them. ▶ More in this week's news analysis: interli.net/3xDUOfe #fashiontech #fashiontechnology #fashionbusiness

🛍 Imagine if we could know the ingredients of the #clothes we buy? 👔 A British industrial designer named Peter Gorse has developed a ‘garment facts’ #label. Inspired by the familiar nutritional labels ubiquitous in the food industry, Gorse curated data on key parameters and designed an easily accessible format. Consumers are already familiar with this type of label and can easily grasp the information it provides. In Gorse's example, the #garment described contains 45 grams of chemicals per 100 grams of fabric, 112 synthetic chemicals; it traveled 25,432 miles through its supply chain and will shed 137,951 microfibers per wash; and its textile workers earned 45% of the local living wage. Transparent access to this kind of #data can influence consumer choices and production processes, much like the impact of nutritional labels introduced years ago on food products. Let's see if the European Union will be inspired by Gorse's project! Follow us to stay updated on the latest developments in circular and transparent fashion! 🌱 🌏 #sustainability #sustainabletextile #circular #fashion #label #green

“Bad practices remain ongoing in no small part because they occur out of sight.” In our latest thought piece, published in World Economic Forum, Better Cotton COO Lena Staafgard explores traceability within industry supply chains – from its potential to radically improve transparency, to the extensive collaboration required to make it a reality. We spent three years developing our recently launched Better Cotton Traceability, consulting with more than 1,600 organisations and a network of Retail and Brand Members along the way. With emerging legislation, traceability will be essential to accelerating industry efforts, and we know first-hand the multistakeholder relations at the heart of traceable supply chains. Libuna Pads 🌼 are designed to fit the needs of modern 👭women!! 1. Chemical-Free: Libuna pads are typically made without the use of chemicals, synthetic fragrances, and artificial additives. 2. Hypoallergenic: Libuna pads are hypoallergenic, making them suitable for individuals with sensitive skin or allergies. They are less likely to cause skin irritation or rashes. 3. Last October 7th was #WorldCottonDay, a crop that plays a pivotal role in the lives of millions of farmers in developing countries. Take a moment to watch the video and learn more about this complex value chain and the ongoing initiatives to advance sustainability and transparency from the cotton fields to retail markets 🌱 Also, check how can sustainability standards such as #BetterCotton, #Organic #GOTS, and #CottonmadeinAfrica help people make more responsible choices when choosing their next outfit. And why do we need to get better at tracing garments from the store back to the farm? International Institute for Sustainable Development- Kappahl

edie recently reported that Zara and H&M have been linked to illegal deforestation in Brazil. The link comes from an alleged failure of the Better Cotton Initiative to properly vet farms that receive their sustainable cotton certification - meaning unsustainably produced cotton made its way to Asian factories, then on to the racks of your local fast fashion shops. Long, complex supply chains are difficult to monitor. Often, the responsibility for maintaining high quality standards falls all the way back to the farmer/producer that is constantly feeling the financial squeeze and taking on much of the production and storage risk. I got curious about Brazilian cotton farming and found a great video from Iowa Agribusiness Radio Network and also a general article on cotton from Greenly | Certified B Corp, also with some excellent video links in the article (links in comments). It's much easier to swallow paying a bit more for quality items when you have some appreciation for the effort and resources that go into producing them. Slow fashion for the win! #sustainability #fastfashion #cotton
