At Beartha we stay pawsome with our furry friends! We are working towards starting our Program to allow individuals that are displaced to have a place for their furbaby to stay while they get back on their feet. Also foster animals from our local Animal Shelter to help them create more space to help other furbabies in need. Some people may not know this but some animal shelters are at full capacity and sometimes families have to call months ahead in order to make an appointment. Due to that some people go to extreme measures and may leave their pet at the location, the pet becomes a stray, or the people and the individual lives in the street. Pets are family and shouldn’t be left behind. Our future goal is to be able to have a location where we can take in both the paw parent and the pet but doing this is the step in the right direction.

Between 5% to 10% of homeless people in the United States own pets (mainly dogs and/or cats). Of the 241,117 dogs and cats that entered North Carolina shelters, 170,753 found positive placements, while 47,652 were killed (76% were cats), for a save rate of 70.82%. 25.58% of North Carolina shelters are no-kill (a state is considered to be no-kill when every brick-and-mortar shelter serving and/or located within the state has a save rate of 90% or higher). I volunteer in animal rescue. Along with fostering, I spend over $2k a year caring for a local colony (not including spay/neuter and vet fees). I am one of many but we can only do so much. Some animals die in abusive homes, some on the streets, and some in shelters. A lucky few are adopted. If you own a business, partner with your local shelters. Cats are great pest control and hey, donations are a tax deduction. Like to be active? Take a shelter dog out for your run. Bake some dog treats. Craft a few toys. Hell, give those carrots you bought for Santa's reindeer to some real, hungry animals. There are more animals in need of homes than there are people wanting to adopt. If you do nothing else, please get your pets fixed and encourage those you know to do the same. When feds bust dogfighters, they're charged with "conspiracy." The ASPCA, the Humane Society of the United States and Best Friends Animal Society, which is a front for dogfighters, are all part of that conspiracy. Don't believe that? Here's just one example: National Dog Fighting Awareness Day is Monday, April 8. Last week, police/feds took 100 pitbulls from eight New Jersey dogfighters, 78 pitbulls from Alabama dogfighter Carlton Adams and 73 pitbulls from California dogfighter Jorge Ayala's property. New Jersey dogfighter Bruce Low Jr. and his family/friends had been investigated since "late 2021," per 6abc-dot-com; Alabama dogfighter Carlton Adams had been investigated since September 2023, per AL-dot-com; and California dogfighter Jorge Ayala, whose "whereabouts are unknown," per NBC Bay Area, had been investigated since "early March." If you think it's a coincidence that feds decided to swoop in and rescue all these "poor, poor dogs" a few days before National Dog Fighting Awareness Day, please do not vote in the upcoming presidential election. There’s a lot that goes into saving lives behind the scene that often take months-a year of planning to save each life. Our team is human and we will never get used to seeing dogs go through tough times. Ongoing support from you all truly makes all the difference in the world for dogs, and for us. While DARTCC's EASA focuses mostly on the care of pets staying at emergency animal shelters, accidents can happen without weather-related disasters right at home. Here are some basic steps to take for common pet injuries and accidents. With a user-friendly operational platform, DARTCC offers emergency pet shelter volunteers an invaluable resource: a paperwork-free pop-up shelter that lets them hit the ground running and focus on the care of pets.
