SLUG AND LETTUCE COMPANY LIMITED owner Stonegate Group is coming under fire for introducing a surcharge for its drinks when venues are busy, with beers costing 20p more during peak times like the weekend or sporting events. Placing signs across 800 of its sites, the group which also owns Yates and Be At One bars said it introduced “dynamic pricing” to help cover soaring costs involved with outgoings like hiring new staff, adding more bouncers and washing glasses. One customer took to Google reviews to express their displeasure with the new system and wrote: “Charges more because it’s busy? [The pub] wanted £4.50 for a small glass of cola… avoid like the plague.” Another commented on Linkedin: “I get the pressures on costs and pubs but the idea of not knowing the prices for sure at any time makes it a bit of a lottery and seems a bit uncomfortable. Hello, if you haven't heard the news, our Design District pizzeria suffered a fire in the early morning hours. Luckily no one was hurt, our doors were closed and no one was inside the restaurant at the time. The damage is bad and are unsure when or even if it will be possible to reopen. In the spirit of our scrappy brand, we are going back to our pop up roots! Our first priority is to keep our staff employed, and community served. Starting Friday around 5pm Square Pie City @ Freehold Studios in Wynwood launches. Please be patient as the team figures out a new space. It was a pizzeria so it has great bones. For this weekend expect Detroit Style Pizzas and slices only. Hoping to get back to a full menu ASAP. Still working on getting online ordering and delivery up.
