FREEDOM TO HEAL – To celebrate Juneteenth while acknowledging the meaningful work that lies ahead, BOLD (Delta Air Lines Black Community Business Resource Group) aired its “Freedom to Heal: A Black Women’s Mental Health Summit” town hall, sharing it with all employees worldwide. This conversation, moderated by two Black women licensed therapists, is the second installment of a series that aims to discuss the current state of mental health within the Black community and raise awareness of resources, this year with a targeted focus on Black women. The vision for this was brought to life by Andrea M. Thomas, MBA (BOLD Vice President) and Alecia Benson, both of whom put their heart & passion into this project. I am so thankful for their leadership. Despite slavery ending generations ago, the traumatic effects of enslavement has had longstanding impact on the Black community. As a result, Black Americans have often navigated psychological & emotional injuries and adopted survival strategies to cope. Unfortunately, research has shown, however, that Black Americans underutilize therapeutic services for mental health. BOLD’s goal is simple – create space for dialogue & healing while encouraging Delta employees to utilize wellbeing resources available through Delta. As we reflect on the historical meaning of Juneteenth, let us all acknowledge the meaningful work that lies ahead to create a more equitable world. We ALL play a role in creating a better tomorrow. #DeltaProud #BeBOLD #Juneteenth

Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, is a holiday celebrated on June 19th each year. In 2021, Juneteenth was officially recognized as a federal holiday in the United States. This holiday commemorates the day in 1865 when slavery came to an end in the US. This was a significant movement in American history, symbolizing freedom and the termination of slavery, which was considered a common practice for centuries. While this was groundbreaking, systemic racism unfortunately still exists in the United States. For this reason, it is important for everyone to educate themselves and others on the history of racism, and advocate for policies that promote equality and address racial disparities in areas such as criminal justice, education, heatlhcare, and housing. On this Juneteenth, let’s celebrate freedom by prioritizing mental health. Mental health is crucial for the well-being of black communities in the United States. Acknowledging and addressing mental health challenges can help break generational cycles of trauma and build stronger, healthier futures. #Juneteenth #MentalHealthMatters #BlackMentalHealth

Illuminating the Mental Health Journey of Black Men As we commemorate Black History Month, it's crucial to spotlight an often-overlooked aspect of well-being: mental health among Black men. Despite strides in awareness, Black men continue to face unique challenges and barriers to mental health support, rooted in systemic inequalities, cultural stigma, and historical trauma. The resilience of Black men through these adversities is commendable, yet it's essential to acknowledge that strength also comes from vulnerability and seeking help. It's high time we dismantle the stigma surrounding mental health in the Black community. Initiatives focused on culturally sensitive therapy, community support, and open conversations can pave the way toward healing and empowerment. Let's commit to creating spaces where Black men feel seen, heard, and supported in their mental health journey. By addressing these issues head-on, we can foster a more inclusive and understanding society. This Black History Month, let's amplify the importance of mental health among Black men and champion the change toward better support and recognition of their struggles and strengths. #BlackHistoryMonth #MentalHealthAwareness #SupportBlackMen #EndTheStigma

Once upon a time in a bustling city somewhere in Africa, there lived a remarkable individual named Daniel. Here is the story of my life: Passion and love for humanity drives me to unfathomable heights. Despite holding the prestigious title of CEO, Daniel wasn't driven by the pursuit of wealth. Instead, his passion lay in service to the community, particularly in raising awareness about mental health issues within the Black community. Fueled by a deep-seated commitment to destigmatizing mental health, Daniel founded "Black Mental Health Matters Inc." It wasn't an ordinary organization; it operates solely on the dedication of volunteers, driven by their collective passion for creating positive change. Despite the common belief that success is measured by monetary gains, Daniel sees success differently—measured by the impact on people's lives and the strength of community support. Daniel has dedicated countless hours to organizing events and production of a digital show aimed at normalizing conversations surrounding mental health in the Black communities at home or abroad. Each initiative aims to foster understanding, support, and accessible resources for mental health care in the Black community. His unwavering determination and relentless advocacy continues to spark conversations and encourages individuals to seek help without fear or shame. In addition to his role as CEO, Daniel serves as the Executive Producer for the "Black Mental Health Matters" show. This show has become an invaluable avenue for Black communities to share their stories and experiences in a safe space, free from judgment. Furthermore, Black Mental Health Matters Inc. aims to build a platform connecting individuals with preferred mental health professionals. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between those seeking support and qualified professionals, fostering a network of care and understanding. In a world often fixated on monetary success, Daniel stands as a testament to the power of passion, purpose, and community. His leadership at Black Mental Health Matters Inc. exemplifies that true wealth is found in the lives touched, the minds enlightened, and the barriers broken in the pursuit of a healthier, more understanding society.
