Check out how NGS drives global ocean monitoring and climate change research in New Zealand!
💦Citizens of the Sea's (CoTS) first sailing rally in New Zealand kicked off earlier this year. Hundreds of water samples were successfully collected and are currently being analysed, by isolating the eDNA that animals and plants leave behind. ⛵️ 🧬 The plan is to survey the world’s oceans at scale and create the largest biophysical dataset ever assembled in the South-West Pacific region, to monitor how species distribution shifts in space and time due to climate change. And how we can support survival. All this work is only possible by building next-generation sequencing (NGS) capacity in more remote parts of the world, like New Zealand. Sequench Laboratory’s Co-Founder and Research Lead, Anastasija Zaiko opened her Nelson, New Zealand laboratory in 2021 and now offers sequencing at scale! To learn more please watch the video below 👇 Congratulations for the great work so far Xavier Pochon, Eric Swale and the team at Cawthron Institute Illumina New Zealand Geographic Evgeny Glazov

Recent research reveals intriguing parallels between chimpanzee and human conversations. Scientists are exploring how the way we communicate, particularly our turn-taking habits, might have evolved, providing insights into the social interactions of both species. This study enhances our understanding of communication and highlights our bond with the animal world. Discover more in the complete article at https://lnkd.in/eQUb8FBr.

#ArchaeologyOpportunities Do you have a lot of information but don't know what to do with it? Do you have a project idea but don't know where to place it? Would you like other people from around the world to help you with your task while they learn from your project? Today we present #Zoouniverse, a very intuitive platform that hosts collaborative projects from all over the world and from different areas of knowledge. Most projects are from the United States and the platform is in English. All projects are online. ✋ Be aware of data policies and data privacy when designing your project and leaving it on the network. ✍ You can also apply for the #volunteering you like best. Do them at your own pace! Great tool for unknown identifications! Also, easily switched between EI and CI modes. However, be aware difference can be noted in EI spectra from the orbitrap compared to spectra found in the NIST and Wiley commercial libraries. https://lnkd.in/e5qdxjNw
I recently discussed exposomics research with Douglas Walker at Emory University where his team are overcoming analytical challenges in this growing research field with Orbitrap Exploris GC. Spend a couple of minutes learning all about it - watch the video below! #environmental #gcms #analyticalchemistry #exposomics

NEW: With a nearly $18 million award from the National Science Foundation (NSF), Health Solutions Professor Matthew Scotch will shape expanding efforts to track the first signs of a disease outbreak to prevent potential future pandemics. Part of the NSF's Predictive Intelligence for Pandemic Prevention program, this prestigious award will fund the creation of a new center — the NSF Pandemic Environmental Surveillance Center for Assessing Pathogen Emergence — where Scotch will lead the Data To Decisions research area as co-principal investigator. The multidisciplinary project brings together experts in social science, engineering, bioinformatics, risk modeling and more, including co-principal investigators: ➡️ University of Kentucky College of Engineering Associate Professor Scott Berry; ➡️ James Keck, research physician at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC); ➡️ Sarah Olson, director of health research for the Wildlife Conservation Society.
