As cities around the world shift towards sustainable transportation, the collaborative efforts of both public and private sectors in expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure are becoming increasingly vital. Toronto has set a goal of reducing greenhouse gases by 65% by 2030. How can a shift to EVs help reduce the city’s carbon footprint and what steps do we need to get there? To help answer these questions, we recently sat down with Ian Klesmer, Director of Strategy and Grants with The Atmospheric Fund (TAF) to learn more about the steps Toronto must take to support the growth of EVs. https://lnkd.in/g5RU4Kzv

Do you like #evidencebased decisions? Perfect. There is "an abundance of empirical evidence suggesting that 30 km/h is a critical threshold... A lower limit significantly enhances #roadsafety, reduces GHG #emissions & eases traffic flows." "Reducing the limit to 30 km/h on more roads is the most obvious way cities can get serious about decarbonizing their #transportation infrastructure." "Cities can make a difference with modern approaches like lower speed limits. They have little or no downside and are a win-win for #safety and the #environment." #VisionZero #SafeSystemsApproach #SafetyforAll #trafficcalming #mobilityforesight Kind regards, Dale Principal, Mobility Foresight https://lnkd.in/ewC7bQUf

President at Toronto Parking Authority
1wGood post, thank you. Toronto Parking Authority has been a catalyst for driving EV adoption across our city the past 24 months- 400 L2/L3 chargers at 31 Green P locations. Forecasting 100K charging sessions in 2024 and building plans to deliver ~175K charging sessions for our valued customers in 2025. Development of our strategy and its ongoing execution has been a labour of love; great support from the teams at Toronto Hydro, Toronto Transportation, Environment and Climate and NrCAN. Carpe diem.
