It's been an absolute treat working with Edge and Restaurant Association of NZ on concepts and copy for the Kai Keepers campaign. When food is wasted it’s a missed opportunity to nourish communities and cut emissions. With the launch of Kai Keepers, Edge Impact and the Restaurant Association are bringing science and strategy to select kitchens in the Auckland and Bay of Plenty regions. Monitoring waste and testing interventions gives each business data and insights they need to change practices that can boost their bottom line and reduce environmental impact. This collaborative approach aims to help a whole industry keep food where it belongs – in mouths and out of landfill. https://lnkd.in/g34MVHtN

Chief Transformation Officer- Ministry for Primary Industries | Executive leader focused on systems change
a useful webinar below for those interested in #foodwastereduction
Who can manage to take a social media worthy photo of Airnewzealand Kia Ora mag? Not me. Nevertheless I was delighted to come across Rescued Limited on my flight today. Rescued is a great example of keeping edible Kai near the top of the hierarchy, feeding it to people. When reading these snippets of the great work happening in our food system, after admiration and support, my reaction and deep desire is for people to see the bigger picture, to understand that every single stakeholder in our food system has a role to play in reducing food waste. There are many organisations working to keep food in the mouths of humans, Upcycling is an emerging sector in Aotearoa, many of you will know of food rescue through the wonderful members of Aotearoa Food Rescue Alliance and redistribution through New Zealand Food Network, Foodprint connecting eateries and eaters, businesses on their journey through Kai Commitment… can you tie it all together in your head? Can you consider the enablers of change that support these solutions? Can you see where your responsibility or opportunity may lie? I’d be surprised if you said yes because it is a bit messy, it’s silo’d, people are getting on with their impactful mahi. That’s why I started mapping the ecosystem, purely to grasp it. It became much more than that, a map is a first step in understanding, understanding brings us closer to management and greater collective impact. Please join us in New Zealand Food Waste Champions 12.3 Charitable Trust (NZFWC 12.3 Trust) food waste ecosystem webinar to hear how we see those links, share your views and more importantly highlight opportunities for collaboration to ensure our impact is greater than the sum of our parts. It’s the only way we’ll design out food waste and work together on a resilient food system that feeds all New Zealanders. #foodsystem #webinar #collaboration #collectiveimpact

Throughout April, Toasters have been participating in our 🌎 Toast to 🌍 the Earth 🌏 , a monthlong event designed to unite our people, our platform, and our philanthropy around making the world a healthier, more sustainable place. Toast announced our Food Waste Reduction product suite last fall, alongside a $1M partnership between ReFED and Toast.org. Our joint mission is to identify and fund innovative food waste solutions for the restaurant industry through the ⭐ ReFED Catalytic Grant Fund ⭐ . There was no better way to celebrate #StopFoodWasteDay this week than by announcing the 6 winning grant recipients: 🍄 Afterlife Ag is a mushroom farming company offering a circular solution that allows restaurants to divert their food waste from landfills and then purchase the mushrooms grown from the otherwise wasted food. ♻ Center for EcoTechnology (CET) offers direct technical assistance to food businesses on wasted food reduction, recovery, and recycling and is developing a “train the trainer” program to enable other organizations to replicate CET's work and offer technical assistance to restaurants in their communities. 📉 ConnectedFresh Company uses sensors and AI to identify and flag issues with food safety and aging equipment, preventing significant spoilage and emergency repairs, and is enhancing their 24/7 monitoring solutions to include advanced inventory management and waste tracking for restaurants. 🌐 Food Rescue US is implementing a data-sharing feature within their existing food rescue web-based app to make food donation easier for restaurants by creating a dedicated API endpoint that will seamlessly integrate with the POS systems commonly used by restaurants. 💚 Green Dining Alliance certifies restaurants for sustainability and will offer restaurants an opportunity to receive direct support to implement and track food waste reduction strategies. 🥕 Prism is developing a storage system designed for restaurants that uses a controlled atmosphere to extend the lifespan of fresh produce.
