See the transforming packaging material S.Lab at ChangeNOW And meet the [we think] state of the art founder and CEO Julia Bialetska. S.Lab eliminates all kind of plastic material in packaging. This saves CO2 and water in packing production. And no waste of plastic and micro plastics into landfill. S.Lab is "produced" by feeding mycelium [mushroom roots] with agricultural leftovers, like grass or hemp. Julia and her team has been using our Impact Business Modeling System™ as part of the Startup Wise Guys program in 2022, to build an Impact Metrics. After that they now exactly know how much they improve the world. They can measure this in kilos of CO2 red, cubic metres of water saved and hectares of land without plastic in landfill, per cubic meter S.Lab material used by e.g. L'Oréal. Since 2020 we have supported 300 startups with sustainable products and services, to make their impact measurable, operational and profitable. The startup company "The Day1Lab" has recently made a groundbreaking announcement regarding their partnership with SK Hynix to replace petroleum-based disposable plastic products with their innovative carbohydrate-based alternative, known as "Retarch." This initiative is geared towards tackling the pressing issues of plastic pollution, reducing carbon dioxide emissions, and mitigating the dangers associated with microplastic contamination. The introduction of "Retarch" bags marks a significant milestone in environmental sustainability. These eco-friendly bags boast a remarkable reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional petroleum-based plastics. For instance, at SK Hynix's Icheon campus, the complete transition to "Retarch" meal bags is projected to cut annual CO2 emissions by approximately 170 tons, considering an annual usage of around 7.2 million bags. Furthermore, "Retarch" bags decompose without producing harmful microplastics, further enhancing their ecological credentials.
