There is a piece in this interview, actually several, that requires inspection. If critical care taught me anything, it was to question the perceived information in front of me and dissect correlation to causation. It seems as if nursing- the workflow, the workforce, and the work itself is being looked at. Which pleases me most ardently. However, who is looking, who is solving, and through which lens. The main interview discusses stopping or at least slowing the travel nurse development and nursing attrition. That instances of virtual nursing can save 20-30 min. My lens:* Travel RN: 1) Nurses leave bedside to get the value ($) they bring. Only leaving can give a RN that kind of monetary compensation, 2) RNs leave an organization to move into travel to avoid the politics, bureaucratic, and hostile work environment (whether that's unit leaders, peers, org leadership, etc) 3) Travel nursing is a great way to level up experience, cross train, and learn from experts in other org and regions. Virtual nursing workflow: 1) Did anyone notice the one monitor tech looking at close to 50 pt monitor screens with 15 alerts or alarms going off? It was an image that was completely unreported. Which is ironically funny to me. I ran one of these units, this is the actual picture of alarm fatigue. (This is a large gap in workflow as well fyi) 2) 20-30 min still does not give me an uninterrupted lunch, or brandish me away from the non top-of-license duties that own my entire shift, questions and haranguing of notes, required documentation, and updating care plans, protect me from workplace violence, or protect my time from non-clerical duties (It's a move in the right direction though) 3) When this work is done via the tele RN, is the pt not allow to call the bedside RN? I am looking forward to the metrics of pts that receive intake or discharge via teleRN and linked items like skin assessments and reported metrics such as patient experience score and caregiver engagement scores. I would also be curious of duplicate work; ie the pt or family ring the bedside RN to go over it all again. *A nurse's job is to ask the hard questions and not always be the favorite person in the room.

Double-Checking Prescriptions: A Close Call Remembering my first year on the floor? Fresh out of nursing school, confidence high. Then came a medication order for a new patient – a high dose of a diuretic. Everything seemed legit... until I double-checked the patient's weight and saw it was WAY too low for that dosage. Here's the Problem – Not Everyone Double-Checks. Most new grads I see don't: Question Orders: Feeling unsure about a dose or unclear instructions? Ask! Verify with the Provider: A quick call can clarify any inconsistencies and ensure patient safety. Document Everything: Note the time, who you contacted, and any changes made to the order. Too Much Rushing, Not Enough Safety: NCLEX® emphasizes the importance of verifying medication orders. A missed inconsistency could have serious consequences. Future Nurses, Remember, when in doubt, ALWAYS clarify.
