I talk to a lot of fellow RNs who are on the fence about taking the leap into travel. We all come to the "Travel World" for different reasons, but here were mine. SPOILER ALERT: It was never about the money for me! 1. Opportunity to explore. I went to nursing school and began my nursing career in the same town I was born in. My #1 reason for traveling was to experience new cities, terrains, seasons. The excitement that comes with exploring a new area every 3-9 months is unreal. 2. Broaden my skillset. My staff facilities were great, but I really wanted to work at some teaching facilities. During my travel career, I was able to work at facilities that just weren't an option back home (Teaching hospitals, Magnet certified, Baby-Friendly, etc) 3. Meet new people. This wasn't what initially drew me to traveling, but it is part of why I stayed a traveler for 4 years. I made so many amazing friends & those connections brought me even more experiences. 4. Avoid the staff burnout. Staff jobs have many amazing benefits and there are pros and cons to everything... But there is something to be said for knowing you can pack up and move on after 13 weeks if an assignment isn't a great fit for you. Things rolled off my back easier knowing it was temporary. 5. The overall flexibility. Want to take a couple weeks off between assignments and go on vacation? Done. Want a snowy Christmas season? You can do that. Need a break from night shift? Great, let's do it! (though you may need to be more flexible on location for this one). If you are interested in travel nursing, I challenge you to write down your "why" as well. It definitely comes in handy to remind yourself of this on the tough days. :) #TravelNurse #TravelNursing #TravelRN #Travel #Nursing #RN #Healthcare #Hospital #Nurse #Nursing #AtlasMedStaff #WhereYouBelong #TeamKat #Hiring #HiringNow #Job #Jobs #Motivation #Flexibility

I have been considering Travel Nursing for a while. After researching this article, I know a lot more about this job and I think it is really awesome. International Travel Nursing sounds like such an exciting yet busy career. Being able to travel internationally while also getting to work as a nurse would be such a unique opportunity. I think it's really cool how the nurse can be assigned to work in another country for 6 months, but if you love working where you are, you can request to stay there for longer. This would be a great job for someone who wants to travel and see new places while also being able to help countless people. This job can be really tough to handle at first because of travelling away from home and family and getting out of your comfort zone. Employers look for nurses who are great at adapting, communicating and solving problems. It's also very helpful to have language skills and cultural flexibility. Nurses with positive attitudes who are always willing and ready to learn are perfect for this career. I feel like this would have been a very difficult job to have during the COVID-19 pandemic. It would be so stressful working in another country away from home and not being able to leave until it was safe to travel again. Another thing that would have been hard is if there was a country who needed Travel Nurses, but wasn't able to employ any due to the outbreak. Although it was tough, if you think about it differently we were so lucky to have travel nurses. Nurses were able to exchange knowledge to give the best care possible to every patient. Without travel nurses, healthcare knowledge wouldn't have grown as quickly. International Travel Nurses are essential in the healthcare field. They take care of people all over the world and have so much knowledge to share. Without these individuals, healthcare wouldn't be where it is today.
