Last week, TIMEC had the privilege of being invited to the BM Local 549 hall in Pittsburg, CA, to speak to a wonderful group of young people. Tom Torlakson’s “Whole Child Institute” visited the training facility and learned about the boilermaker industry and the benefits of union trades for their future. The kids had the opportunity to do hands-on welding in the weld shop and test their skills on the state-of-the-art VR (virtual reality) machine. It was very rewarding to see how excited they were to think about all the possibilities for their future. At the end of the training, they were awarded certificates of completion for “Introduction to Industry,” presented by the Boilermakers Local 549. Thank you for the opportunity, Local 549! #bmlocal549 #supportouryouth #timec #education

Learn how one K-8 teacher brought the topic of plant and animal cells to life. Students created digital models of cells in CoSpaces, then explored them using ClassVR headsets. The entire process was fun, easy and – above all – engaging. Our ground-breaking first experience with Exotendon Haptic Interactions was touching and grasping a cube in Unity! Using Maestro EP allows you to learn via proprioception, just like when you were a kid stacking blocks. Unlocking this haptic experience with Maestro was major milestone in helping us prove out the difference Multi-Force Ergonomic Haptics make when compared to alternative options. This unlocks the potential of learning naturally in VR with objects or tools. Practical uses of tangible object manipulation now range from familiarizing personnel with expensive heavy machinery at construction sites to utilizing an "infinite supply of breakable materials" during training sessions.

I was presented with a very interesting problem to solve, to create a system that tracks a user's aim to be implemented in a virtual reality shooting simulator. Developing this prototype brought back memories of me studying linear algebra, solving vector space problems and linear transformations without understanding the application, now all those concepts come very handy to create solution, taking advantage of the capabilities of the Unity engine. #unity #vr #training #simulator

Check out some of the interactions we created with St John WA to take their First Aid Training into VR, mobile and web. #vr #training #healthcare #mobile #learning #virtualreality
We created a VR first aid training application with St John WA back in 2019. It was way ahead of its time using hand tracking, environment tracking, character speech and real life manikin interactions. There's still a great use case for VR and MR for training and with the new headsets on the horizon it may be time to jump back in. Below is an example of just a few of the training modules we worked on.

The potential use cases for a 3D simulation for incident response training are often limited only by the scope, requirement, and design stages. The Unreal Engine 5 video game engine by Epic Games is truly powerful. Imagine this simple concept montage turned into a simulation for low head dam or swift water rescue. Imagine that this tool can be used for incident commanders, teams, and individuals through both a tabletop experience, as well as 1st-person VR plugin, before trainees ever have to get in the water. #firefighters #emergencymanagement #training #CRLT
