Imagine being given $100 to spend as you please. After spending $40 or $50 instead of enjoying good meals with friends or helping others, you somehow end up arrested, in jail or in rehab. It could seem like this person is reckless, careless and stupid. It could feel helpless of how to utilize the rest of the money since the first half was so poorly used. I sometimes attribute this example to the amount of years we’re given in life. And after 40 or 50 years we can be accomplished and happy with family, friends and a community. Or we can be 40 or 50 and in prison or rehab. In that second case, it might feel like a person’s life was already thrown away. Or they’re useless and not help-able. Meanwhile the picture of the text message is real and from a previous guest of Tikvah Lake Recovery. Even after spending $50 or so on things you’re not proud of, you can always utilize the rest with deliberate intent. There’s no such thing as destined for failure or stuck. This previous guest spent one birthday in rehab and the next on a ski trip with family. It is possible and it happens all the time. Who cares how you spent your first $50? Focus on the next $50 and how to spend it with purpose.

Thank you for the share, Adam. It's truly inspiring to hear stories like this. Life is full of ups and downs, but what truly matters is how we choose to move forward. No matter how we've spent our past, the future is always a blank canvas waiting to be painted with purpose and intention. Keep your focus on the next $50 and the limitless possibilities it holds.
