Exciting developments are on the horizon for Volusia County! AURA-AERO, a leading aerospace manufacturer from Toulouse, France, is considering Volusia for its U.S. headquarters, a move that could bring over 1,000 high-paying jobs and a projected $537 million annual economic impact to the region. "This kind of high-tech headquarters and manufacturing facility is absolutely critical to the county’s targeted industry goals and overall economic growth," says Volusia County Economic Development Director Lou Paris. With partnerships involving Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and other local organizations, this potential move could solidify the county as a major aerospace hub. Only a couple of months before the final race of the 37th America's Cup in Barcelona!  Why is this event important for the entire maritime industry, not only for racing yachts? Their work is a shining (and foiling!) example of holistic and integrated solutions. I’m very much looking forward to the Naval Dockyards Society Conference in Bermuda in May-June 25. It will be thirteen years since our last conference there, which commemorated the bicentenary of the War of 1812, presenting a multifaceted reappraisal of Bermuda’s significance within international and maritime history. This is published in Bermuda Dockyard and the War of 1812, Philip MacDougall, Ed., Transactions of the Naval Dockyards Society, 10, 2017, £15.00 P&P from the email below). The conference was superbly complemented by walking tours of the Dockyard, St George’s and Hamilton, and boat tours of the islands of the Great Sound and to Paget Island and Fort Cunningham, giving us glorious views of the aquamarine sea. In 2025 it will commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Closure of the Royal Naval Dockyard in partnership with The National Museum of Bermuda. The museum has undertaken a diverse range of engagement and exhibitions: Bermuda’s links with the West Indies and the Azores, the Trans-Atlantic slave trade, Boer War POWs, and the island’s defence through two World Wars. Estimated conference and tour dates: 29 May–2 June 2025. Conference themes will encompass: • Bermuda Naval Dockyard—Early history • 1812 Fortifications and conflict with the USA • The North Atlantic—Second World War • Dockyard Closure—Personal stories • Dockyard today—Bermuda's economic loss and recovery We want to know: What challenges has Bermuda Dockyard faced since 1951?
