The Basel-based Super Constellation Flyers Association (SCFA) was established in 2000 to ensure the operation and maintenance of a Lockheed Super Constellation. The aircraft, the last operational Constellation in the Western Hemisphere, was operated in Switzerland between 2004 and 2016. As a club supporter, you could participate in flights on aircraft operated by the club and receive discounts on souvenir items. Due to licensing reasons, club membership and a contribution towards expenses were necessary to take part in sightseeing flights within and from Switzerland to other European countries. Despite the association's best efforts, it was decided in February 2019 to dissolve the association as the sum of CHF 20 million for the renovation of the HB-RSC aircraft could not be guaranteed by the deadline of 20 April 2019. HB-RSC was sold and transported to Germany in 2019, though she remains registered as an antique aircraft in the Swiss register and is formally owned by a local investment broker, Immo Norse AG. DIAG Aviation GmbH had hoped to rebuild and reactivate the aircraft but never did so. The Super Connie is up for sale (2023) and can be delivered worldwide. 🛫 Federation Council are in the process of reviewing the Corowa Aerodrome, including the site, governance structures, operations, and value to the local community. The Aerodrome is a Council owned and operated facility that currently facilitates activities including recreational aviation, agriculture, and emergency aircraft, among others. We are eager to understand how the Aerodrome can best serve the region’s community into the future. As the Aerodrome is an important local asset, this survey is open to all community members interested in the assets and services of Council (not just those who are direct or regular users of the Aerodrome). It is important to remember that at this stage, no decisions have been made about the future of the Corowa Aerodrome. Josef Ressel, an Austrian inventor, changed the world of marine travel with his revolutionary propeller design. Born in 1793, Ressel's journey began in Chrudim, part of the Habsburg Monarchy. His innovative design was first tested in 1827 in Trieste, the largest port of the Austrian Empire. Despite an early setback due to a steam engine explosion, Ressel's propeller soon became essential for modern marine engineering. Patented in 1827, Ressel's invention allowed ships to navigate more efficiently and powerfully. His design reduced drag and increased propulsion efficiency, making ship travel faster and more reliable. It is 10 days until the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games ! 10 days to read the 10 papers in the new special issue of Planning Perspectives dedicated to #Olympic Urbanism: past, present and future. The papers include new work on #Helsinki, #Paris, #Beijing and #Tokyo, plus excellent reviews of key issues: #security, #sustainability, #bidding and the size of the Games. There's a paper on the first ever Winter Games in #Chamonix (1924), and the special issue concludes with a great paper on the next Winter Games which is due to be staged in #Milan/Cortina in 2026.
