Assistant Diaries: Navigating Rough Waters in the Fashion World Story #2 Years ago I reached out to a stylist whose work I admired, offering my assistance in exchange for experience. An opportunity arose, and I joined her and her first assistant for a shoot. Me and her 1st assistant worked closely, chatting about our career paths. I shared my aspiration to become a stylist, while the first assistant expressed her own uncertainties about the industry ( I think she had just finished college at the time) The shoot went well, but on my way home or I think I was actually at home, I received an abrupt text from the stylist. She bluntly stated she didn't want to work with me again, citing a conversation with her first assistant who supposedly felt I didn't want to be there. I was shocked. This was untrue, and I hadn't even been given the chance to clarify. No empathy, No integrity. I thought people just do what they want with you and not even value you enough to give you a conversation. I was completely disheartened especially having cold Dm'd this person asking for an opportunity. That experience left a bad taste In my mouth (Pause). Is this how the industry treats newcomers? A lack of empathy and communication? It made me question whether my ambition was misplaced. However, In hindsight, I realised this wasn't a reflection of my abilities, but rather a lesson in leadership—and self-preservation. 𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝘁𝘆𝗹𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 & 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀: Remember, your actions leave a lasting impression. Especially when working with aspiring talent, fostering open communication and treating everyone with respect, regardless of their role, is crucial for building a positive industry culture. 𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁𝘀: While sharing your ambitions is important, choose your confidantes wisely. Not everyone will be your cheerleader. Focus on building your skills and treating everyone with respect, as your professionalism will speak for itself. By maintaining my integrity and learning from every encounter, I'm determined to carve a path that's both successful and respectful to all. Have a great day my people Peace & Love 💋🤘🏽 #Fashionstylist #Positiveculture #Leadership

This is a photo of me at 19 or 20, taken during London Fashion Week after the show by the studio where I was interning. The interns, including myself, had worked tirelessly for 36 hours straight before the runway show (you can probably see the dark circles under my eyes). María Mediavilla and I have countless stories from this time, best shared over a bottle of wine. Looking back, I was always in such a rush. I was eager to get 'there,' to climb the ladder and reach the next stage. I had a whirlwind of ideas, plans, and ambitions, and I was desperate to achieve them as quickly as possible. In my haste, I missed out on enjoying many moments simply because they weren't the end goal. I was so focused on where I wanted to be that I overlooked the journey itself. With time, I've gained a patience that 19-year-old Georgina couldn't have imagined. Now, as I work on projects, build my business, and plan for future goals, I find joy in the work, the process, and the journey. Yet, every now and then (especially with the influence of social media), I feel a surge of that old frustration, wishing everything would come together faster. So, this is my Friday morning reminder: enjoy the journey. Dream big, plan big, but enjoy the building, the work, and the process. #Business #LifeGoals #BusinessAdvice

We’re recapping some of the most popular stories from this year, and this one is with Amy Thomas of Believe Inspire Clothing Boutique: “I love empowering people. Customers come in and they’ll say things like, ‘I just went through a divorce’ or ‘I gained 50 pounds’ or ‘I lost 50 pounds’ – it’s like they’re trying to find themselves again. They’re searching for how to start feeling good about themselves again. I’d seen that before in photography. I went to school for a degree in healthcare administration, but spent 20 years as a photographer instead. Clients would say “That’s me?? I can’t believe that’s me!’ like they were seeing how beautiful they actually are. I retired from photography, but I still kept that part in my business, Believe Inspire Beauty Clothing Boutique I start by finding your style. Lesson number one, you're not going to talk someone into loving sequins if that’s not their thing. I’m open to everything, but I understand everyone has their own taste and specific problems to solve. Like me, I’m short, so I stay away from styles that make me look shorter. Everyone has something they're trying to flatter or hide. People are so honest here at the boutique and I love it. I get a chance to remind them they’re not alone, that their struggle is not just their struggle. Sometimes that’s all they need to hear and then we can move onto solutions. I love when people say, ‘I never would have tried this on, but I feel pretty’. On those days, we met our goal – Amy Thomas, Believe Inspire Beauty Clothing Boutique #heybaycity #baycity #baycitymichigan #michiganjob #michigancareers #baycounty #baycountymichigan #youngprofessional #intern

I help experienced comms & marketing professionals to grow your earnings and enjoy balance and freedom doing meaningful work that elevates you beyond the gig economy. Career Coach
A few months ago, a client with a senior comms role came to me feeling very worried about her risk of redundancy. She enlisted my support because she wanted to find a role that would align with her skills and her personality. The only problem was she didn't yet have a "why" for being in comms. She didn't feel sure of her core values and didn't feel exceptional as a candidate. Her confidence had been rocked by her most recent employment experience. Fast forward six months and she has a new job title as a Global Internal Comms Lead for one of the world's most recognised luxury fashion brands. Bearing in mind the role she's left was not Internal Comms or in the fashion business, this is an impressive feat. This was not a Cinderella, overnight transformation. And it wasn't luck. It saw her invest in six sessions of deep level, psychodynamic and strategic personal development with me through which she rewrote her sense of who she is and why she does comms. This work saw her through a rigorous interview process, in which she was vetted by more than 10 people from this couture brand. Putting the work in upfront on your clarity, confidence and mindset, and then being true to yourself in your choices is the most effective way to find a role that really fits. Worth the price of a designer handbag? You decide.🙂 I now have two spots available to work with clients who are job hunting and committed to their journey of personal development and self discovery - if you'd like to do this together, get in touch.

This was the vibe for breakfast! 🍳 The past 48 hours have been a whirlwind. I found myself in a hotel on the Main Street in and around Covent Garden #London trying to find a quiet space to be live-streamed into my talk for Women Thrive Media The talk was about defining success and what that may look like to you. From a lobby to a swanky breakfast. It’s just literally been 👌🏼 Sitting with the phenomenal Sally Howard talking all things marketing and visibility. Yesterday I found myself on a small island between bustling traffic on Oxford Street. I was on a #brand #photography shoot. To say that I’ve never felt so exposed, visual, and exhilarated all in one go. Strutting down a catwalk so to speak. #liberating Albane McGuinness had everything needed for every possibility. She took my bags, took the lead, and had a great eye for detail. It really was an #experience 📸 I can’t wait to get back the pictures! My afternoon was a little more chill. I was vibing in a #mayfair members-only club, sipping on a Cosmopolitan. Taking a moment for #gratitude and a pat on the back for the success of the last year especially. My self-mastery journey is always ongoing. Putting myself in bigger ponds, fishing for bigger things to come. I’ve just rewritten this year's goals. This time, I wrote them as: "What did the year 2024 deliver to me, Keely Pierce." I wrote in great detail, giving thanks for all of the things that happened. I guess what I’m trying to say is, we have everything we need at our fingertips; we just need to tap into it 📝 Happy Thursday 🚂 💨 #homebound #thoughts #reflections #opportunities #speaker #internationalbusiness #collaboration #community #mumlife #worklifebalance #goals #ambition I am More Academy

One of the most pivotal moments in my life... I saw a stranger propose outside of Tiffanys flagship store in New York. It was incredibly romantic and felt truly magical. One of the stand out moments of the trip. But when I got home and told my friends about it, they didn't understand why I was so fascinated by it. Or why someone would want to propose outside a shop... They just didn't get how big of a deal it was. I did though. I loved how a brand could mean so much to a person that they plan a key life event around it. Not only was a Tiffany ring essential, the actual store was a crucial component too - a destination proposal. Growing up I was always obsessed with brands and had an uncanny ability to understand them on a felt level. I guess it makes sense that I stumbled into this career path. I talk to a lot of business owners about their business, marketing strategy and ROI. But my favourite part of this role is getting to bring a brand to life in their vision. Looking back, I'm incredibly happy I got to witness that proposal. It kicked off my own love story with a career I'm madly infatuated with. On the flip it's also made my already high romantic expectations even more unrealistic 😅 #branding #marketing #storytelling

Is it fair not to offer a job to a candidate because he or she has tattoos? https://lnkd.in/e8F4AczP According to Bastos and Levy (2012), the modern meaning of brands is a recent conceptualization dating back to the XIXth century. Etymologically, to be branded meant to be marked by the fire as we used to mark cattle, slaves, and pirates. As such, to be branded or tattooed used to have strong and negative connotations (at least in the West). At first sight, we can easily notice the problems of not only the sheer salience of her tattoos but also of their semiotic (that is, symbolic) representation. Naturally, the visual identity of a brand will impact customers’ responses (Phillips et al., 2014). Whether she likes it or not, this young lady cannot blame the lambda individual for (mis)interpreting her “brand image” differently than she might otherwise conceive her “brand identity” (Nandan, 2005). De facto, consumers interpret a brand personality (Aaker, 1997; Japutra and Molinillo, 2019) or a corporate brand (Keller and Richey, 2006) from its various associations (Keller, 1993), and specifically from the associations relating to the human brand of its ambassador (Thomson, 2006; Leung et al., 2022) as well as those associated with front-line employees (Mosley, 2007; Chakravorti, 2011). Notably, the trait of “warmth” is supposed to be directly inferred from the front-line employees’ personalities (Aagerup et al., 2022). Yet, we can’t help but admit that her appearance exudes neither warmth nor competence for that matter… Furthermore, her problem is yet again exacerbated by her solid online notoriety as an OnlyFans content creator. Under such circumstances – and although I am tattooed myself all over my abdomen, chest, and back – it is inconceivable for the average manager to offer a front-line job at a traditional retailer or, in a professional service firm (e.g. accounting, banking, law, etc.), to this young lady since her personal brand is way too problematic for most companies. Nevertheless, everyone has the right to work. As such, it is still possible for this lady to capitalize on her disputable life choices by 1) working at a shop specializing in gothic or heavy metal clothes or 2) becoming a brand ambassador/top model for such clothing brands. *** The references are included in the comments due to length limitations. #branding #marketing #retail #employment #ambassador

Community Manager at The Attention Seeker | Consumer Behaviour & Cultural Researcher - Brazil and Australasia | Systemic Dynamics and Community Insights | 🇧🇷Brazilian and amante da minha cultura
🎯Your target audience buys for one of the two reasons: 1️⃣To belong: what they buy will get them a “free ticket” to become part of a group, to be accepted. 👜Eg.: your friend got a new job is an upgrade in her career. She buys a Louis Vuitton handbag, to message your group of friends that she has stepped up in life. The bag with the big logo will then signal everyone else at work that she isn’t any Jr. anymore, she’s ahead in that chart. 2️⃣To be different: when your same friend steps up again in her career later in life, she then doesn’t have to prove anything to anybody anymore. She has conquered the top, no need to belong. 🍅She then invites you and your friends and calls a chef to cook you all, a simple meal with the organic cherry tomatoes she picked herself from her garden at her holiday house. And that’s enough to make her different. 🧠Now you understand. Who do you think that’s wishing to belong? 🧐And who do you think that’s wishing to be different? 🧐🧐And where do you fit? #consumerbehavior #belonging #culturalbeliefs #consumerism #marketingresearch
