#InternationalDayOfCharity was declared by the United Nations General Assembly in 2012, the International Day of Charity is an opportunity to support charitable works. It’s also an opportunity for charities and volunteers to raise awareness of the work they are doing. From large to small charities, this is a day to mark achievements and call for further support in making the world a better place. Here at Liberty Group we feel charity starts at home, that's why we are proud supporters of the MND Association, a charity that has been close to our hearts for many years. MND is the short-term for motor neurone disease which affects the nerves known as motor neurones. These nerves are found in the brain and spinal cord and they help tell your muscles what to do. If you have MND, this means your movement will be affected and you are likely to get a wide range of symptoms, messages from the motor neurones gradually stop reaching the muscles. This leads the muscles to weaken, stiffen and waste, which can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. Some people also get changes to their thinking and behaviour, but the disease affects everyone differently. Not all symptoms will affect everyone, or in the same order. Symptoms also progress at varying speeds, which makes the course of the disease difficult to predict. MND is life-shortening, unfortunately there is no cure, although the disease will progress, symptoms can be managed to help achieve the best possible quality of life. It brings me great joy to launch our 'A Little Pitta Love' campaign in support of Coeliac Awareness Month. 💜 Sadly there are a lot of misconceptions still about coeliac disease, hence why Coeliac Awareness Month is hugely important for raising awareness and educating people that coeliac disease is a serious autoimmune condition and not an allergy. When someone with coeliac disease eats gluten, their body attacks its own tissues and causes gut damage. 1 in 100 people in the UK have coeliac disease, yet alarmingly only 36% of people have a medical diagnosis. Our campaign aims to raise awareness and support the work that Coeliac UK is doing to reach the estimated 500,000 people in the UK who might be living with debilitating symptoms and seeking answers. Our goal is to raise £26,000 for Coeliac UK by donating 20p from every limited edition purple pack of stone baked pittas sold across major UK retailers in the month of May. #spreadalittlepittalove #coeliacawarenessmonth

5 years ago, we took a step into the unknown. We started a charity to support children, young people and families affected by Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. We wanted to focus on the areas where there were gaps - the huge gap in awareness that had existed for decades, the gap in support where families didn't know where to turn when their child was first diagnosed and the gap in research to ensure that we could push forward on the research areas that matter most and make a big difference whilst working towards our overall vision of a world where no child has to suffer from arthritis. So 5 years on, when we receive messages like this from parents, we know we did the right thing in starting Juvenile Arthritis Research. Amanda lost her beloved dad Jimmy to sepsis in June 2022. He was 71. Too many families will be without their loved ones this Christmas. Sepsis can affect any of us.
