Webinar🚢⚠️Join us today to hear from Antonio Di Lieto: From compliance to diligence: a maritime safety perspective. Steven Shorrock #safety #maritime #humanfactors #webinars #EUROCONTROL
From compliance to diligence: a maritime safety perspective, with Antonio Di Lieto Tuesday 26/03/2024 This webinar aims to provide a general overview of maritime safety with a focus on how the legal concept of Due Diligence and academic principles on Safety Leadership can co-exist. A catastrophic accident which caused loss of nine lives, the criminal convictions of shipboard officers and the collapse of the port control tower will be used as case study. In the event of a large-scale accident, in order to deal with the increasing level of scrutiny by the courts and by an increasingly intolerant public opinion, both management and operators at the sharp end must be able to demonstrate that they have done everything possible to prevent it, by shifting the emphasis from compliance to diligence. https://lnkd.in/eC_DezX8

As we celebrate "Live Long and Prosper Day" on March 26th, I'm reminded of another Mr. Spock quote that relates to the evolution of my role with CRDN of Central PA & Northern Pittsburgh. As I delve more into scoping claims (along with the continued development of current and potential partners) and less into the process and physical labor side of claims, I am quickly solidifying the notion in my head that "Knowledge is Power". The more information that I can gather and relay to our team will result in a more efficient and "clean" packout. This leads to less of a need for communication between the first responder and packout team while on site, which allows everyone to fully focus on their task at hand for the day. Ultimately, the greatest benefit to gathering all the facts necessary from the start is that we will undoubtedly be performing in the exact manner requested by, or communicated to, our homeowner. That's the biggest win for everyone involved. #crdn #restorationservices #restorationexperts #contentsrestoration

Trauma-Informed Human Relations©™ | Former 1st Female Firefighter/EMT-P in Addison, Texas | Change Leadership and Culture Strategist | Expert Witness | Veteran Family | Who's Who Univ. Inductee
Below is an excellent Firehouse Magazine article by Kanen Black on his experience with a lateral transfer. Mr. Black did not state his reasons for transferring to a new department, but feedback from my research focus groups has been that the firefighter wants to flee a bad culture. Fire department cultures are fluid, meaning they vary widely from city to city and depend on a few things. Culture becomes transmitted over time through role-modeled deliberate and unconscious processes by the accumulation sum of societal, communal, organizational, and individual attitudes, beliefs, and values. These things impacting culture are difficult to change but not impossible. It does, however, take patience and everyone contributing to its improvement. Changing culture needs examining the systems at every level, past and present, current problems, and future goals. Academic literature brought awareness to implicit processes starting in the late nineties, and it was then that organizations started evaluating their cultures. So you would expect newly incorporated fire departments like St. Johns County Florida Fire Rescue's in 1998 to have a vastly different, more modern culture than one established over fifty years ago. #culture #lateralhiring #lateraltransfer #firefighters
