I believe people are the heart of an organization’s success. At Ericsson, in order to keep our technology leadership, we need to be innovative and agile, open to new challenges, foster a culture that encourages diverse thought and perspectives and create an environment where people want to come and stay.
Five years ago, we launched our largest cross-company cultural transformation initiative, ‘Ericsson on the Move’, to shape our organisational culture. In a recent conversation with my colleague Hana Yoo from our Network Operations team, we discussed our ‘Ericsson on the Move’ transformation journey and the critical role it continues to play in driving our company’s culture and creating success for both Ericsson and our customers.
At the core of our journey is our five focus areas: empathy and humanness, cooperation and collaboration, fact-based, ethical and courageous decision-making, executing speedily, and fostering a speak-up environment. These focus areas guide us on how we should act at every level in the Company, every single day.
When employees feel connected to their colleagues and leaders, they work harder, faster and more collaboratively. Furthermore, when they feel psychologically safe, they are more likely to raise ideas, speak up, and demonstrate empathy towards their colleagues. I personally feel very happy when I see team members asking lots of questions and expressing their views at my All Employee Meets across the region.
Over the past 5 years, we have gathered many proof points of our progress through employees surveys and feedback from our workshops and training sessions. Even till today, this movement continues to encourage our people to experiment, be curious, and remain open and positive about learning something new.
Even with the amazing progress we’ve made and the impact we’ve created, I would say the most critical part of a strong culture is the ability to continuously improve. Here’s to the future and to always moving forward together.
