I just read pages from the 2024 PlastChem report, "State-of-the-science on plastic chemicals" link below. #Chemicals are essential to #plastic production but also pose significant environmental and health risks, as outlined in the report. The research identifies over 16,000 chemicals in plastics, with less than 6% currently regulated globally. 🌍 Worryingly, nearly 4,000 chemicals have production volumes exceeding 1,000 tons per year, highlighting a substantial gap in global regulation. With 1300 known chemicals of concern marketed for use in plastics, and 29–66% of chemicals found in well-studied plastic types being worrisome, the need for action is evident. Industry news: "Biodegradable Spunbond Nonwovens" and Other Industry Standards to be Implemented on 1 July The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China has approved 1,276 industry standards, among which FZ/T64104-2023 "Biodegradable Spunbond Nonwovens" and three other nonwovens-related standards will be implemented on 1 July 2024. The standard applies to spunbonded nonwoven fabrics made of polylactic acid as raw material, melt spinning into a net and bonded by hot rolling, and other spunbonded nonwoven fabrics produced by biodegradable polymer raw materials can be used for reference. #tissue #nonwovens #hygieneproducts
