Remember when Anheuser-Busch and Miller represented just a handful of products and brands? Fast forward to the craft brewery boom that chipped away at the King of Beer's dominance, leading to a spree of acquisitions to capture regional markets. Similarly, global hotel chains like Marriott, Hilton, IHG, and Hyatt now boast an extensive array of brands, creating a landscape that can be bewildering for road warriors like us. As we accumulate nights within a specific tier of a chain, aiming for complimentary stays at luxury or international properties under the same global umbrella, the complexity intensifies. While I appreciate the strategic move to maximize revenue by catering to diverse traveler demographics, from family road trippers seeking economy options to senior executives desiring premium or luxury experiences in city centers, I find myself pondering: Can a brand niche be sliced too thin for each property? Will Guidara is the founder of thank you, a hospitality company that develops world-class destinations and helps leaders across industries transform their approach to customer service. He is also the former co-owner of Eleven Madison Park. Under his leadership, the restaurant received numerous accolades, including four stars from the New York Times, three The MICHELIN Guide stars and in 2017 was named number one on the list of the World’s 50 Best Restaurants. He is also the cofounder of the The Welcome Conference , an annual conference that brings together the best minds in the world of hospitality. A graduate Cornell University, he has coauthored four cookbooks, was named one of Crain’s New York Business’s 40 Under 40, and is a recipient of WSJ. Magazine’s Innovator Award. In his latest book, Unreasonable Hospitality, he shares many of the lessons about service and leadership he learned over the course of his career in restaurants, and makes the case that any business can choose to be in the hospitality industry by taking ordinary transactions and turning them into memorable experiences. A huge mystery surrounded the organization of the McDonald's Global Convention, which took place April 8 - 11 in Barcelona, Spain, marking the first time it was held outside the United States. The fast-food company concluded its convention last Thursday at the Olympic Ring of the city, specifically at the Palau Saint Jordi, with the final surprise of the event: a private concert by the London singer and model ⭐ Dua Lipa and The Killers⚡ The world's largest 🍔 hamburger company also rented space at Montjuic's El Poble Espanyol, where an after-party was held and attended by about 15,000 participants, including executives, franchisees, and suppliers from 119 countries. This is the 30th edition of the congress and the first time McDonald's has held its global convention outside the American continent: "It makes the Spanish market the first to host this important event," the company emphasizes. The first McDonald's global convention took place in Florida (United States) in 1965. Since then, these meetings have been held in cities such as Las Vegas, Toronto, Chicago, and Hawaii. Attendees had the opportunity to visit museums, 🍽 ⭐ Michelin-starred restaurants, and participate in meetings held at the Fira Gran Vía in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Barcelona. I wonder which brand benefited the most from this event, whether it was McDonald's, Barcelona, Dua Lipa, or The Killers.
