The need for appropriate, high-quality assistive technology (AT) in the Global South is well-documented. Access to AT is more than a need; it’s a fundamental human right enshrined in the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. But with inadequate investment in AT, where is the best place to fund disability inclusion? What are your thoughts? Today, we marked Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) with representatives from various #disabilities, including our #Accessibility_Auditor panel. Around 55 individuals participated, with 25 in person and 30 online. Our focus was on bridging the digital divide, yet we inadvertently created disparities for disabled citizens at every turn. Disability Innovation Lab (DIL) of a2i organized the event in the presence of Mr. Mollah Mizanur Rahman, Joint Project Director (Joint Secretary) of a2i, as a chief guest. GAAD aims to get everyone talking, thinking, and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) access or inclusion for people with different disabilities. On the eve of the GAAD, in this celebration, we want everyone to think of this as an opportunity to look forward to working on bettering digital inclusion and accessibility to build a more inclusive nation. a2i #SmartBangladesh2041 #Accessibility #DigitalInclusion #AccessibleReadingMaterials #LeaveNoOneBehind #SDGs #Disability #InclusionMatters #AccessibilityForAll #DisabilityInnovation #IamtheSolution #CircularCashless #Govepreneur #ZeroDigitalDivide #GlobalDigitalCompact #ATDO #GAAD2024

Last month I had the pleasure of representing the National Disabled Students' Association and speaking at the NZDEN ‘Disability Inclusive Pathways’ Conference. My segment controbured to the attendees committment to improving disabled and neurodiverse people's career, inclusion, and belonging outcomes. We heard from leading disability experts, experienced practitioners and people, lived experience, including inspiring international speakers. This year's conference theme, ''Collectively Stronger'' is about exploring the strength of disabled people, the value they bring to organisations, and breaking the narratives that have formed in society. We explored how as a network we can all support and empower disabled and neurodiverse New Zealanders in their employment, and ways to foster organisational cultures of true belonging for disabled people in the workplace. Together we can challenge bias. As a collective, we can break down barriers. As a community, we will realise inclusion. #sustainability #sustainabledevelopmentgoals #sustainabledevelopment #youthleaders #disability #disabilityinclusion #disabilityawareness #disabilityrights

#Companies – independent of their size, industry sector or geographical location – increasingly recognise that the #inclusion of persons with disabilities is an economic and ethical imperative. Typically, like other societal actors, #enterprises are on a learning journey regarding the way #disability inclusion, including the #employment of persons in their own workforces, can be made effective and sustainable. National Business and Disability Networks (#NBDNs) can provide non-judgmental and encouraging #employers-led platforms at country level. At the end of 2023, some forty NBDNs in all world regions existed, with almost all of them also being members of the ILO Global Business and Disability Network – which acts as a network of networks to facilitate the peer-to-peer sharing and adoption of good practices in managing NBDNs. Learn more about NBDNs in our latest guidance note "The 'Why' and 'How' of National Business and Disability Networks". https://lnkd.in/ey8bGv9Y #enable2work

Diversity, Equity and Inclusivity (DEI) should include 2As - A for Acceptance and A for Accessibility. Let's mark this International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPWD) by embracing inclusion in our lives and workplaces. Our aim should be to support people with special needs and ensure they receive the equal rights they deserve. #IDPWD #DEI #accessibility #acceptance
