As an energizing #NYClimateWeek nears close, below are a few of my reflections:
1️⃣ Diversified Investor Engagement:
A notable shift is underway with a diversified class of investors actively exploring how to participate in FOAK projects, giving renewed possibilities for how we write the playbook to finance this challenging, but integral gap in climate finance.
2️⃣ Alternative players are entering the convo:
The investor community is keenly exploring the role of EPCs in ensuring project quality and timelines, and insurers in crafting products like offtake agreement insurances, opening avenues to de-risk project development.
3️⃣ Signficant funds are emerging:
Significant funds are being mobilized with notable examples Just Climate and Decarbonization Partners raising substantial amounts ($1.5B and $1B respectively), and much energy / enthusiasm around several other platforms raising funds to play in this space.
4️⃣ Proof points are being made:
The H2 Green Steel project in Sweden stands as a beacon of collaborative efforts. With an investor syndicate comprising over 20 different equity investors, including industry corporates and sovereign wealth funds, it showcases a successful formula of large, diverse equity investor pools propelling groundbreaking initiatives.
5️⃣ Government Incentives are helping - more bridges need to be built:
A nod to the significant work done by organizations like ARPA, OCED, and LPO, and the opportunities poised through GGRF. Government incentives are playing a pivotal role in fostering a conducive environment for green innovations. That said, we still have some work to do to build bridges between market rate capital and government to play together more effectively and adapt a common language so we can "crowd-in" more capital and put communities at the heart of the conversation.
The work we have to do is hard, but the the stakes couldn't be higher. Now let's translate conversations to action.

1moThis presentation and innovative design was so energizing and inspiring. I want to visit the studio when it’s finished. These young innovators even spoke about how plant walls have symbiotic relationships with sound and frequency. They would use plant walls to help support biodiversity as well as insulate the sound, while the vibrations from their music would help the plants live a healthy life! 📈📈📈
