I am a University of Iowa BSN. The last quote in the article needs to be read and repeated, by all #nursingleadership. Myrtle Aydelotte (1972), founding Dean and Professor at the University of Iowa College of Nursing, shared: "What is needed is a reexamination of nursing leadership and a new thrust forward. Nursing leadership must reorient itself and restructure itself in such a way that nursing education and practice are inseparable, are symbolic, and are united in purpose" (1972, p.23). Academic-Practice partnerships need to go beyond just clinical experience opportunities, and instead focus on preparing the next generation of nurses #together. This is a defining moment, not just in nursing education, but in #highereducation. Perhaps we need to change the model of where nursing curriculum is housed. The regulations of higher education can be confining for nursing programs. Perhaps we need to examine our purpose with practice and forge a new path.

Continuing education for nursing personnel within a health facility is critical. It ensures that nurses stay up to date with the latest practices and developments in the field of health care, which reflects positively on the quality of services they provide to patients. In light of the rapid progress in the medical and technological field, nurses must maintain and constantly update their skills. Continuing education provides them with the opportunity to learn about and train on the latest therapeutic methods and techniques, which contributes to improving the level of care provided to patients. Continuing education also enhances patients’ confidence in nurses, and makes them feel that they are in safe hands. It also helps increase job satisfaction among nursing personnel, which is reflected in their level of performance and commitment to their duties. In conclusion, investing in the education and development of human resources in the field of nursing is an investment in the quality of health services as a whole. 🗞 Preparing Internationally Educated Nurses (IENs) for Success 🗞 The 2023 passing rate since the NGN NCLEX-RN was implemented, for first-time IENs, was 52.60% (National Council of State Board of Nursing). Just like the passing rate increased for USA nursing graduates, it also improved for IENs. However, if the IENs were in a program with the same rigor and accrediting standards of nursing programs in the USA, this 52.6% would be considered too low, and the program would be closed. What is the difference? Most IENs do not register in preparation programs, nor they have a mentor or coach with nursing experience in their country of origin and the USA. Commonly, they pay to use a platform created for the US graduates, with little or no guidance. Thus the gap in practice between the professional practice of nursing in their country of origin, vs the professional practice of nursing in the USA is neglected. And we see the results. For a program to succeed, a IEN need a coach, someone with experience in both countries, or at least who can do an assessment, and close the knowledge/practice gap; who cares enough for the candidates to coach them, more like being a "school preceptor" to increase their chance of success.
