📣 Breaking: Our latest report reveals new evidence linking the CIO, #Zimbabwe’s intelligence agency notorious for humans rights abuses, to Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ), a politically affiliated trust allegedly involved in voter intimidation. The #FAZ trust was established by associates and family members of Asher Walter Tapfumaneyi, the deputy director general of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO). FAZ’s official deeds reveal that FAZ’s trustees include Tangisai Tapera, a key ally of Tapfumaneyi and his business partner in a past oil deal with Iran. Both Tapfumaneyi and FAZ deny that the CIO controls the trust. FAZ declined to identify its funders, claiming that it is financed by “well wishers who prefer not to be named.” FAZ’s activities—including a large get-out-the-vote operation with allegations of voter intimidation—may have helped #ZANU-PF, the ruling party, win the election. Observers noted FAZ’s presence at thousands of polling stations, where its reported links to ZANU-PF and the security services may have intimidated rural voters. FAZ declined to comment when asked whether their activities intimidated voters or whether their spending tipped the electoral scales toward ZANU-PF. The Sentry’s findings add to the revelations by Zimbabwe’s News Hawks on the role of the CIO in forming FAZ. Read the report’s full findings and recommendations: https://lnkd.in/gwBs3BPk

🔴 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗙𝗼𝘂𝗿'𝘀 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗲𝘀: 𝗦𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 In a gripping turn of events, four former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) commissioners, known as the Cherera Four, have come forward with explosive revelations. Some, in exile, and others appearing virtually, shed light on alleged electoral fraud and the threats that have forced them into exile. This emotionally charged session unfolded at the same venue where these commissioners made history during the announcement of election results, ultimately leading to their departure from the IEBC. Their testimonies underscored the tensions and challenges faced during Kenya's electoral processes. Juliana Cherera and Irene Masit, appearing virtually due to security concerns, revealed the immense pressure and threats they've faced for refusing to accept the presidential election results. Their deeply moving accounts shed light on the personal toll of public service. The Cherera Four commissioners also raised critical issues regarding the election process, including their sidelining during the tallying of presidential results and the lack of access to key documents. Their proposed electoral reforms, alongside recommendations from other experts, suggest the need for a comprehensive review of Kenya's electoral system. 🗳️ #KenyaElections #ElectoralReforms #ChereraFour

President of CRIES | CEO of InnovAcción Hub | Open-Source Intel & Tech-Driven Social Impact | Technical, Technological, and Methodological Innovation
Combating Misinformation: An Imperative in Times of Crisis From CRIES - Coordinadora Regional de Investigaciones Económicas y Sociales, we have always believed in the importance of truthful information and the power of technological tools to keep communities informed and safe. Misinformation can lead to confusion, fear, and in extreme cases, situations of violence and chaos. Following the recent primary elections (PASO), we witnessed a wave of looting and riots in Argentina that quickly spread throughout the country. While it's essential to address the underlying causes of these events, it's equally crucial to ensure that circulating information is accurate and reliable. Aware of the situation at CRIES, we decided to leverage our "know-how" and our technical capabilities. We began a meticulous monitoring effort on social media, not only to identify and debunk false news but also to confirm actual incidents. This task, although monumental, was vital to prevent the flames of misinformation from spreading further. The outcome of this effort is not only a refutation of "fake news" but also the creation of a robust database and an interactive map. This map not only provided a real-time view of events in different areas but also enabled citizens, authorities, and media outlets to access validated and objective information. Additionally, it allowed us, as a team, to test our own capabilities and lay the groundwork for facing future situations that demand immediate responses. #CRIESAgainstMisinformation #AccurateInformation #CommitmentToTheTruth

Afr.News/Update#News/AFRI Source:-theguardian.com/IBlog Blogger:-#yasjay-blog@KSA-Rydh# Dated:- 9th June, 2024. " RWANDA'S POLITICAL ATMOSPHERE" Diane Rwigara, a well-known critic of President Paul Kagame, has been barred from participating in the upcoming presidential election. Rwigara, who was previously excluded and imprisoned on charges of forgery and inciting insurrection in 2017, expressed her disappointment at the latest decision. This move highlights ongoing concerns about political suppression in Rwanda under Kagame's three-decade rule. “After all the time, work and effort I put in, I am very disappointed to hear I am not on the list of presidential candidates,” Rwigara said on X. “Paul Kagame, why won’t you let me run?” Why is it that in a country praised for economic transformation, the voices of prominent opposition leaders are systematically silenced? The election commission said she had failed to provide a criminal record statement as required, and that she had not met the threshold of 600 supporting signatures from citizens. Only two other candidates – Frank Habineza, of the Democratic Green party, and Philippe Mpayimana, an independent – were cleared to run against Kagame, who has ruled since 1994 and is expected to win again. The final candidate list will be published on June 14, ahead of the July 15 elections. How can true democracy thrive when economic progress is overshadowed by persistent human rights abuses and the silencing of opposition voices? Despite economic progress under Kagame, his administration faces criticism for human rights abuses and suppression of opposition voices. #IS DEMOCRACY FAILING IN AFRICA?# #STAYTUNE#KSA#AFR.🌍 #FollowMe#newsblog#yasjay#rydh Em:-<[email protected]> with&liveupdate/credible/source.

Our new report examines the surge in attacks targeting candidates and government officials as well as rising vigilante activity in response to the deteriorating security situation in the run-up to this weekend's vote: bit.ly/458tEZd Zimbabweans are set to vote in a general election next week as current President Emmerson Mnangagwa of the ruling ZANU-PF party runs against the main opposition leader Nelson Chamisa of the CCC. The vote comes during a sustained period of political isolation from the West, continued sanctions from the United States, and a general sense of malaise among many in the population. The lead-up has already been marred by political violence, with the killing of CCC activist Tinashe Chitsunge in early August by alleged ZANU-PF supporters. Our new report analyzes the political landscape in #Zimbabwe and assesses the likelihood of increased violence during the election and its aftermath: bit.ly/3sm3GTs
