Meet Sabrine Bentalib, our colleague with strong affinity for details. Starting a PhD gave Sabrine the opportunity to dive deeper into one subject and become an expert in it - something she was gladly imagining at the start. Now she is working on significant research for the aerospace and automotive industry, as part of NWO (Dutch Research Council)'s Enlighten programme. Thermoplastic composites, or fiber-reinforced polymers, are already used to create lightweight and strong parts in aerospace and automotive structures. However, the material needs to be advanced in order to make larger constructions with it, saving more weight and CO2 emissions. Developing such large-scale thermoplastic composite structures that are both reliable and efficient is the primary aim in the Enlighten programme. Within this initiative works a multidisciplinary team of 13 researchers, one of which is Sabrine. I recently attended the ME Rising Stars Workshop at UC Berkeley, and it was an enlightening experience! From understanding the application process to starting and leading a research group, I gained valuable insights into academia. The opportunity to connect with peers in adjacent fields and mentors with insightful advice made the experience even more worthwhile. I would highly recommend this workshop to anyone considering academia. Thank you to the organizers, speakers, and fellow participants for making this possible! #UCBerkeley #mechanicalengineering

***Engineering Sciences Welcomes FES Batch 33*** The Ice-Breaker Event Included - A Welcome Note by the Dean - Heart to Heart with Two Alumni - Hi-Tea and Mingling with Assigned Advisors But the real highlight of the event was the drawing-and-guessing game show ("Win, Lose, or Draw") which pitched Faculty against Students in a battle of quick thinking, quick drawing, and quick guessing. We are sorry (or pleased) to report that the students won. (and yes, that is attempted "Thor" in the lower left frame).

"Objective --> Things needed --> Procedure --> Results" work flow "Why", or "Why-s" documents, Etc (a note inspired by a post from Prof. Leena Nebhani ) ____________________ (i) Prof. Leena Nebhani ; "What a week" - these words in your 1 week old post can help one visualize the interest, high activity and enthu that an academician like you bring into the day's tasks. And congratulations for the laurels; Prof. Leena , Prof. Ankur Goswami . (ii) Even for those in the "industry", a lot can be gained by applying the "Objective --> Things needed --> Procedure --> Results" flow into tasks or projects. Link to an old post on this subject: https://lnkd.in/ghrqS637 (iii) The "why we are doing" is a key thought stage or step as people in a team may be from different fields, and each may be thinking in different directions / lines due to past experience. So making a "Why"/"Why-s" document can help when beginning new project tasks. _____ link to Prof. Leena's one week old post: https://lnkd.in/gt8TBhAA _____
