People Co Con affords the hundreds of us at The People Concern the rare opportunity to come together and learn what keeps the heart of our organization beating. After 5 long years, the return of People Co Con heralds the chance for us to learn from each other in order to better care for ourselves and for our program participants. Thank you to everyone who attended and made the event unforgettable. We can't wait to reunite from across LA County and see just how much of a difference we can make in the lives of our unhoused neighbors.

"Family and volunteering go together like peanut butter and jelly." - Travis and Badger Koon. Badger began his volunteering journey for The People Concern after his brother Travis had spoken highly of the four years that he has spent volunteering with us. Now, they spend their Saturday mornings together as a family fulfilling a worthwhile need and making a difference in the lives of the people of Los Angeles. Badger and Travis have done remarkable work over the course of their time here and the impact they've left is apparent on the faces of all the people they've helped empower. After a long five year hiatus, we are proud to say that People Co Con has returned! Last week, over 450 employees of The People Concern joined together to mingle, laugh, learn and be inspired by each other. People Co Con affords us a chance to reunite from across LA County. We come together for great learning and bonding experiences. We teach each other about representation, about what it means to be a people leader and how we can do our best to serve our most vulnerable neighbors while squeezing in enough time for a professional massage or some delicious desserts. By empowering ourselves and learning from each other, we're better prepared to tackle the issues around us and make sure that everyone is housed, healthy, and safe. We're already waiting on bated breath for next year's People Co Con. See you then!

Our dedicated volunteers are the lifeblood of many of our programs. Every day, we rely on the generosity of our community of over 1,550 volunteers who dedicate thousands of hours to our most vulnerable neighbors. We are looking for creative, passionate, empathetic individuals who are ready to positively impact lives and support survivors of domestic violence and our neighbors experiencing homelessness. We offer volunteer opportunities across several of our sites pertaining to homelessness and domestic violence. If you are eager to get direct training in social services, veterinary or global health, then check the link here https://lnkd.in/gPrHtCVV to find out how you can join our community of doers and change-makers!

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, a pivotal moment in American history when the last enslaved individuals in the United States were finally freed. This day is a profound reminder of the end of a horrific chapter and a celebration of Black independence and excellence. As we commemorate Juneteenth with communal festivities, we must also reflect on the ongoing need for activism and education. By addressing racial disparities, healthcare inequalities, and prejudices, we can pave the way for a more equitable future. Our collective efforts are essential in creating inclusive spaces that foster unity and respect within our communities.

At the South Los Angeles Recuperative Care Center (SOLAR), one of our interim housing sites, we are dedicated to creating a supportive and welcoming community. Since 2014, SOLAR has provided program participants with access to meals, full-time nursing care and more. SOLAR offers a safe place for people experiencing homelessness to stabilize after hospital stays and move towards permanent housing. SOLAR's success is due to the invaluable hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers. It is thanks to them and supporters like yourself that people experiencing homelessness receive the care and assistance they need to move forward. The staff at SOLAR exemplifies the level of care it takes to make sure everyone is housed, healthy and safe.

We are deeply thankful to everyone who joined us at our annual gala, hosted this year at the Skirball Cultural Center. Your support is crucial to the continuation of our mission of helping our unhoused neighbors. It's a shared journey toward the ultimate goal of permanent supportive housing. Your presence goes beyond a single evening-it represents a commitment to a cause that profoundly impacts lives and helps rebuild futures. With your support, we can confidently say that All Roads Lead Home. Thank you once again for being an essential part of our community and for your continued dedication. Together, we are making a real difference!
