How do you stand out from other job applicants? Graduate Role Applications In order of importance, you will be assessed on the following: 1.      Relevance of your industry experience. Remember, some graduates have had paid employment 2.      Relevance of your internship 3.      Relevance of your projects & assignments 4.      Grades Assuming you’ve just graduated and all of the above are in the past, there is nothing you can do about them now. So, what can you do now? The most important thing is to demonstrate an understanding of the company and the role. This requires reading and speaking to people in the industry, ideally from the same company. Then demonstrate how your interests and experience align with the demands of the role and the work of the organization. If you are lacking in the above criteria and cannot demonstrate an interest and understanding of thee employer, you're a long way off securing an interview. Most people submit applications that are 100% about themselves without any consideration of the company’s work. You will be a breath of fresh air if your application focuses on the employer as well as providing relevant examples of your alignment. Experienced Professionals You will be assessed on the relevance of your most recent experience, positions held, projects & companies for whom you’ve worked. Again… all in the past. Nothing you can do about it now. If you have substantial experience, your education, while being a prerequisite, is really not a deciding factor. So, what can you do now? - Speak to people in the organization to get a deeper understanding of the work, projects and pain points for the organization. - Focus your application on your relevance and how you can address the company’s challenges. - Provide examples of what you have done that is relevant to the role/organization. Target-Oriented Training Centers: Training centers are primarily focused on meeting quantitative targets rather than ensuring qualitative skill development. This approach leads to a higher number of placements but compromises the quality of those placements. Consequently, many candidates drop out within their first year of employment, stagnating the economic growth in various districts. 2. Ineffective Employment Fairs: Various departments conduct separate employment fairs, each with its own targets, leading to effort duplication and participant division. The focus on attendee and placement numbers, rather than securing quality job opportunities, has diminished the effectiveness of these fairs. The actual placement rate is significantly lower than reported, as many individuals do not join or leave their jobs shortly after. 3. Lack of District-Level Input in Target Allocation: Skilling targets and training modules are determined at the State level without adequate input from district departments. This top-down approach limits innovation and local relevance, with departments focusing more on completing training numbers rather than creating impactful programs. -Proposed Solutions- 1. Student Progress-Oriented Approach: Revamp the target-oriented model of training centers to a student progress-focused approach. Training modules should be expanded to enhance trainees' skills and employability comprehensively, including the development of soft skills and personality traits. 2. Integration and Refinement of Employment Fairs: Merge separate employment fairs into unified, well-organized events. Focus on securing quality placement opportunities rather than merely tracking the number of attendees and placements. 3. Decentralization and Local Relevance in Training: Involve district-level departments in deciding training targets and trades. Encourage departments to adopt a demand-driven training approach, similar to PMKK and JSS, where district inputs shape the training modules. 4. Enhancement of Rural Self-Employment Training: Grant more autonomy to departments like SRLM to conduct need-based and demand-driven training in rural areas. Simplify the process for proposing special projects to encourage departments to innovate and go beyond mere target fulfillment. This session provided a wealth of knowledge and practical advice that will be invaluable as I continue to shape my career path. 🎯 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: 𝗦𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗠𝗔𝗥𝗧 𝗚𝗼𝗮𝗹𝘀 One of the key takeaways from the session was the importance of using the SMART method (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) to set clear and actionable goals. Understanding what we want to achieve and aligning our career choices with our personal values is essential for long-term satisfaction and success. So the results are in... 🥇In first place 'we can't train them': To be honest I would almost agree that it's a good thing you're not taking on trainees (at the moment), because you recognise you can't train them. It's better then doing it anyway and then not giving them the support they need and deserve. But this is a common reason I come across with agencies, so you're not alone! 🥈In at second place 'we've tried - they never last': I would put money on the reason they've not lasted being something to do with either hiring the wrong person (easily done, see third place) or there not being enough support in place once they started. But if this isn't recognised, of course you would be hesitant to go through it all again. 🥉Third place was 'we never find anyone decent': Looking for people at this level is difficult, trust me I know! I think people assume hiring people without experience would give you a wider talent pool of people, but it doesn't. You might get a lot of applicants, but of course not all will not have the potential and drive to work in recruitment...that we should be looking for anyway. Time and time again I see agencies hiring, but not fully understanding what makes a great trainee and how they should go about identifying them. So on that note, I do know what I'm talking about with this and can help.
