Two years ago today, the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade. But the Dobbs decision has had an impact far beyond American borders. “The U.S. is a norm-setter,” explains Giselle Carino, executive director of Fòs Feminista, an organization working for sexual and reproductive rights in 40 countries. “If the U.S. keeps putting money to emulate Dobbs in other countries, the consequences on women’s lives will be shattering.” Carino, along with activists, doctors, and patients from four other countries sat down with writer Mariane Pearl as part of the Ford Foundation's #FreeFuture series to discuss the ripple effects of U.S. abortion law on the fight for reproductive justice around the world. And while the consequences have been dire, there are reasons to be hopeful. Globally, “there is a great critical mass on the frontlines—reproductive rights activists resisting the limitations of civil liberties,” says Carino. “I want to tell American women that we are ready. We have faith in our ability to stand together because our struggles are connected.” Read more about the global impact of Dobbs: https://lnkd.in/g6C8QaqJ

❌ There are hundreds of choices of coffee available in West London, but 257 million women worldwide have no access to contraception. This is the key message of a new ad campaign by MSI Reproductive Choices (formerly known as Marie Stopes International) and Uncommon Creative Studio. The 'Every Choice' campaign aims to raise awareness of the fact that 40% of women live in countries where abortion is banned, restricted or inaccessible. The campaign features outdoor and print adverts placed in London and New York City, showing lists of bagel fillings, hair dyes and lunch options, to show the many choices people are able to make each day, in sharp contrast to the availability of reproductive rights. Displays use real data, and locations have been selected to resonate with the topic on the list - for example the list of ‘souvenirs you can get from one shop’ is in London's Westminster, while the list covering ‘bagel filling options' is across Manhattan. The campaign aims to highlight that the lack of choice on something as fundamental as bodily autonomy, compared to the countless types of fillings you can have in your bagel, is unacceptable. Amanda Seller, MSI Reproductive Choices’ vice president of global partnerships and philanthropy, said: “This is a completely new approach for us, but with unprecedented funding uncertainty and an escalation in anti-choice opposition following the overturning of Roe v Wade, it’s never been more important to rally others to join us and choose choice. "Millions of women and girls rely on the contraception and abortion care that our teams provide to stay in school, follow their dreams and fulfil their potential. We won’t let them down.” #ReproductiveRights #BodilyAutonomy #WomensRights #AbortionRights

Reflecting on the Anniversary of Roe V. Wade As today marks another anniversary of the historic Roe v. Wade decision, it's impossible to overlook the seismic shift that occurred with the Supreme Court's ruling on Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. The overturning of a nearly 50-year precedent protecting a woman's right to choose is more than a step backward; it's a travesty that has catapulted reproductive rights to the forefront of our national debate. The post-Roe landscape is fragmented, with states enacting a patchwork of laws that either fiercely guard or severely restrict abortion rights. This legal inconsistency creates a tumultuous environment where women's access to healthcare is heavily dependent on geography, exacerbating issues of inequality and healthcare access. However, the resurgence in activism and advocacy for reproductive rights with organizations and individuals alike rallying to safeguard these fundamental freedoms, is heartening. It illustrates that the fight for abortion rights is far from over—it's entering a new chapter. We all have a stake in the protection of human rights-- of reproductive rights. How can we, as a collective society, push forward to reinstate and protect abortion rights? We must use our voices. Engage in civil discourse. Act within our local communities. And most importantly, we can't let this issue fade into silence. Change starts with a conversation. Let's get talking. Since policies around abortion and the definition of personhood have shifted to the states, women across America are facing a growing disparity in reproductive rights based on where they live. In half of the country, the Dobbs ruling has led to more restrictions around abortion rights and women's reproductive health. The aftermath is still unfolding, but here's a look at where we are today: #womenshealth #reproductiverights #dobbsruling #digitalhealth #ivf #abortionrights
