Today is #EqualPayDay — the day that marks how far into 2024 women have to work to make what the average white man made in 2023. But that’s for *all* women—broken down by race, the discrepancy widens. And over the course of a 40-year career, the wage gap robs women of hundreds of thousands of dollars and delays retirement by decades, per the National Women's Law Center Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eXxBDWwS

Today is #EqualPayDay! It's unacceptable that women, on average, still earn 78 cents for every dollar earned by men. The wage gap hits even harder for women of color. It's time to confront this inequality and advocate for fair compensation for ALL. The #PaycheckFairnessAct will help end pay discrimination for women. Tell your Rep. to support this bill so women — especially women of color — are paid what they're owed! Join the fight HERE: https://p2a.co/zgIsuWP The #SalaryTransparencyAct is also a crucial step towards closing the wage gap and securing economic stability for women & their families. I help women to avoid the pay gap in their business by getting their financial mindset right. I remember interviewing Black and Asian women who'd left employment to set up their own businesses. This was for the 'Broken Ladders' report by the Runnymede Trust and the Fawcett Society back in 2022. It was clear from the conversations that these women still were dealing with some of the same systemic biases they faced in employment. Same problem, different setting. I believe that as a female business owner paying attention to your numbers and the impact of the pay gap is crucial. Because if you don't, there's even less of a financial safety net for you to fall back on. I know the financial impact that under-earning has on women. If you've never stopped to consider this or have but are unsure what you can do about it, let's talk. #paygaps #financialcoaching

Throughout Women’s History Month, please join AuguStar Life in commemorating some of the key events that have helped shape the financial history of women in America. 1938: The Fair Labor Standards Act is passed, establishing a minimum wage for hourly workers, and eliminating pay differentials between men and women working hourly jobs. 1960s: The U.S. grants women the right to own bank accounts. This comes more than 80 years after France had already done so, but more than a decade before the U.K. would. 1972: Katherine Graham becomes the first female CEO of a Fortune 500 company. 1974: The Equal Credit Opportunity Act is passed, allowing women to apply for credit without a male co-signer for the first time. The scope of the law is later expanded to also protect on the basis of age, marital status, race, national origin and religion. #womeninfinance #womenshistorymonth #femalefinance Sources: https://lnkd.in/gXqAY943 https://lnkd.in/g_EwbBQ6

This is, quite literally, valuable reporting from The Fuller Project. It covers 1)How companies target the financially disadvantaged 2)How good journalism informs so that citizens can guide and influence gov representatives.
Watch! The Fuller Project California Bureau Chief and Senior Editor Aaron Glantz describes the impact of his reporting on the Earned Wage Access Industry, a $9.5 billion, fast-growing sector which is almost entirely unregulated. Earned Wage Access apps, including such brands as EarnIn, Dave, Daily Pay, and Brigit, offer high cost cash advances, which like payday loans, are disproportionately used by women of color. In their investigation for The Fuller Project and Los Angeles Times, Glantz and Monica Campbell found that young women who use the apps often end up trapped in a cycle of debt. This story was the first in our series about sexism in the tech industry. #cashapps
