Throwback to the pre-pandemic ERIC, when we used to be a careers event business! ๐ช ERIC Festivals were known by over 150,000 young people across the UK and we would sell out thousands of tickets ๐ within 24 hours. ------------------------------------ Designed to give young people a window into careers in the creative industries, our events would have creative speakers, performers and hosts, the world's most creative brands would sponsor, a wealth of incredible activities and experiences and so much more. Mae and Samantha credit the 6 years spent running ERIC festivals as 'the research years'. Dedicated time to understanding what young people need in order to get careers in the creative industries and how organisations can better connect and support them. This is why the ERIC app is so effective. Because it was created from years of research ๐ฌ. It truly is solving a problem for young people and organisations alike, because we truly understand the problem that needs to be solved. ------------------------------------ #creativeindustry #creativeindustries #creativecareers #ericfestivals #theericapp #careersfair #careerevent #throwbackthursday

I help creative business people focus on their talents and minimise what holds them back. Iโm also your Thursday newsletter paperboy ๐
Co-creation helps you propel your network where you expand with the right people. Collaboration is a well-used term, we put it into action this week. Two communities came together, in Bath (on Thursday), to recognise that weโre great with those weโre familiar with, but can it work with others who share the same mindset but not as attached?ย I believe it can. This is what I am learning from a new world of co-community events: ๐ค Be Clear Of Why You Want To Do It?ย If you approach with the idea of what you can take for yourself, youโll only be disappointed. ๐ Find The Right Collaboratorย When you find a partner with a common ground, you give value and you get the value back. ๐ฆEmbrace An Open Idea Exchangeย When you work with others on new ideas, you have to be willing to experiment as a team and not stick rigidly to previous incarnations. ๐ฐ You Donโt Need To Go โAll Inโ At The Startย When starting a new initiative, itโs filled with opportunity, but youโre still stepping into a new arena as a novice.ย Thatโs ok ๐ Learning & Contribution Can Be From Those Involvedย It shouldnโt be all on you, but a willingness to let others speak up, join in and shape ideas. This helps create an enriching experience. Loved spending time with John Espirian and the Espresso team this week as well as the You Are The Media squadron โค๏ธ. In the world of collaboration, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

I hopped on a call with Alex Hughes almost 1 year ago. His story blows me away. Usually, Alex introduces himself as a 35-year-old grandfather. Yep, quite the pattern interrupt. He became a father at the age of 14. The education system told him to stick to focussing on his GCSEs, and aim for college. But Alex had the responsibility of a child in his life. He wasn't going to be able to wait for that. In his case, entrepreneurship became the only route to success. Alex has dedicated his life to writing his own rules and in doing so building 13 businesses over the last 10 years. Fast forward to today, he has put his energy into building bridges between young talent and opportunities. - Heโs building the Curious Entrepreneurs Community. - Previous-CEO and now-Chair of Inspire 2 Ignite CIC - Has leadership roles in other charities and academies Heโs built a platform to help empower the youth of today to become the leaders of tomorrow. Specifically, enabling 16 - 24-year-olds to become self-sustained outside of our current education system. Today, Alex is sharing how we can ALL empower our youth: 1) Infrastructure is key. If you want to empower people, you need to give people equity in their outcomes. Alex co-founded the Citizen Hub in Cambridgeshire, a physical infrastructure project in the heart of a market town, giving local citizens and businesses support to develop community, skills and employment. 2) Language is important. The conversations weโre having with young people at careers fairs, youth hostels, etc. Ask: โWho do you want to be?โ instead of โWhat do you want to do when youโre older?โ 3) Give young people the opportunity of leadership. In events, workshops and meeting rooms, give a โmoment of leadershipโ to a younger person. Be an advocate for youth empowerment by allowing them to speak their mind and have a voice. What would you add? ___ Part 1 of #SparkAConversation โก๏ธ series. Every Friday, a fellow leader/creator is taking over my LinkedIn profile to create an impactful conversation. 8am GMT. โAfter a year of online conversations, we started โThe Live Showโ, focusing on topics and conversations that encourage growth in all of us, topics like societal expectations, bias, honesty, and tolerance. This season is called โIncluding Youโ. If we want change, growth, and to build up our community, then that includes all of us. That includes you. That includes me. That includes โweโ. Weโre called The Break Bread Village, and to me, the act of breaking bread has always been like a truce to me. Itโs a way to show that we are all equal here at the table and that we can all play a part, so that concept has been at the core of the talks. I ask panelists to participate because I saw something in them that I thought would bring value to the conversation. I want them to be who they are. We want to make things as cool and easy as possible for people, because we know discussing certain topics is hard. The idea is that we're all here to chill. We try to take away any anxiety people may have and our team is fantastic with that. I want to create a safe space, and I mean that. Not just safe for people with similar cultures or perspectivesโwe really want everyone at the table. That means the conservative person, the religious person, left or rightโI want all of it. For all of us, the audience and the panelists, if you feel challenged or uncomfortable at a talk, that's a chance to search within yourself. We have to learn how to navigate through life with people who have different viewpoints.โ โErin Patrice, The Breaking Bread Village Starting in January, the Bay Area Community Foundation has invited Erinโs โIncluding Youโ conversation series to Bay City! This year-long series invites members from the community onto a panel to discuss a topic, and each free event focuses on a different topic: societal expectations, bias and judgment, empathy and tolerance, honesty and transparency, morality and religion, and the greater good. The first event is January 9th at the Pere Marquette Depot, located at 1000 Adams St. in Bay City. Doors open at 6:30PM for the pre-show with musical guest Pesky Kid, with the show starting at 6:30 PM. #heybaycity #baycity #baycitymichigan #michiganjob #michigancareers #baycounty #baycountymichigan #youngprofessional #intern

Speaker | Best Selling Author --> Joy Connoisseur! On a mission to connect with 1 million people & Have Good Ripple Effect!!
If you were given the opportunity to present a gift to future generations, what would it be? For me, it would be to give them three experiences: ย 1. An experience where they give back and make a difference, to see ripple effect firsthand. 2.ย We would sit down and create a JOY list and a JOY calendar, so that they build the habit of creating JOY through the busy and stressful parts of life early (we need a little counterbalance in life!). 3. I would teach them to connect! It's the people we interact with that shape us, teach us, laugh with us, and ultimately help us get where we are going in life. Networking is powerful beyond measure!ย ย And that's why I am always looking for ways to encourage young people to get out and build connections, make impact, and create joy! ย In June, I am partnering with the Greater Des Moines Partnership on a networking event with local high school students (to build those connections) and would love your help networking with those students! Below are the details.ย ย ย Event Details ย On June 28th, the Greater Des Moines Partnership and I will bring close to 125 high school students together for a networking event as part of The Legacy Project: Career Ready Collective event series this summer. Part of the time will be spent networking with community members. The goal is to create a structured opportunity for these students to practice their networking skills with community members and gain valuable career insight and advice. ย This is where you come inโฆ ย ยทย We would love community members (35-40 people per session) to come and network with students from 2:00 โ 2:50 p.m. or 3:00 โ 3:50 p.m. (or both) on June 28th at Principal in Des Moines, IA. ยทย The students will be paired with community members to network and after 7-10 minutes, they rotate around the room to meet additional community members. Itโs pretty amazing how a lifelong connection can form so quickly! I have even heard of students landing internships and jobs after these networking days. ยทย Community members are given conversation topics to cover (i.e. share your career journey or what do you do each day) and a few questions to ask the students (i.e. what do you plan to do after high school?). The goal is for the sessions to be fun and interactive! Thanks for helping shape the future! ย If you are able to help at either (or both) sessions, let me know and I will send you the sign up link with details!! Thanks for Having Good Ripple Effect!

Join our networking Hackathon-style debate to shape and influence the future of our industry. Results will be presented atย UKREiiFย and one lucky participant will win a free ticket to the conference! The built environment industry is facing a major skills shortage. The workforce shortfall is projected to widen in the future with some estimates showing that over 150,000 new workers will be needed in the UK property sector within 5 years. Following on from our discussions on the UKREiiF EDI stage last year, we want to use YEP's platform to identify what the current barriers are to getting more people to join this incredible industry - what do the Next Generation want, what are the misconceptions, and what are the opportunities? This is what the Hackathon aims to find out! Hackathon participants will work in small groups to answer and problem solve, and then present a summary of findings. These findings will be presented on the main stage at UKREiiF in May. We are offering one lucky attendee the chance to win a FREE ticket to UKREiiF worth cยฃ1,000, providing you with an opportunity to hear your ideas presented back to industry professionals on the Main Stage at the conference! All ticket proceeds will be donated to our charity partners. The event is being hosted at the Carter Jonas central london HQ. Speaker | Best Selling Author --> Joy Connoisseur! On a mission to connect with 1 million people & Have Good Ripple Effect!!
I am always looking for ways to encourage young people to get out and make impact and JOY! Because, letโs be honest, we are only borrowing the world from future generations. This Thursday Iโll be hosting a Networking opportunity (think mini-Rising Tides Connection Conference) for the high school students at a local high school! The goal is to create a structured opportunity for students to practice their networking skills with community members and gain valuable career insight. It has been such a great experience gathering community members to be part of three separate speed networking sessions. Curious how it works? Here are some details: ยท 150 or so students come to class during their assigned times (three different class blocks) ยท The students are paired with community members to network and after 7-10 minutes, they rotate around the room to meet additional community members. Itโs pretty amazing how a lifelong connection can form so quickly! ยท Community members are given conversation topics to cover (i.e. share your career journey or what do you do each day) and a few questions to ask the students (i.e. what do you plan to do after high school?). The goal is for the sessions to be fun and interactive! BIG Thanks to the Ankeny Orbis at Ankeny Schools for making time for connection, You Have Good Ripple Effect! Interested in joining us at a student networking event in the future? DM me and I will add you to the list! #YouHappenToTheWorldNotTheOtherWayAround #havegoodrippleeffect #RisingTides #ConnectionGrowthLearning

Because, you know, nothing says "you're awesome" like a spreadsheet, right? ๐ Throughout my college journey, I've dived deep into societies, clubs, and communities, and guess what? It's not about how many events we organised but the genuine impact those events had on people. ๐ ๐ โค๏ธ Hereโs the inside scoop: --> Staying true to my roles and responsibilities? Absolutely. ๐ค --> Giving everyone a fair shot? You bet. ๐ฏ --> Creating opportunities from scratch? Heck yes! ๐ฑโจ The real magic? None of this was a solo act. We grew together, lifting each other up every step of the way. But how do you measure the collective growth of many individuals with a single number? Spoiler: you can't. ๐ So letโs flip the script and celebrate not just the numbers, but the stories, growth, and the amazing community vibes weโve created together! ๐๐ฅ #mycollegejourney #togetherwerise #communityimpact #processoveroutcome
