Join us in welcoming Mr. Peter McLennan, Chief Executive Officer of the Backflow Prevention Association of Australia Inc (BPAA) at the 2024 MPA Skills and Galvins Plumbing Supplies WA Plumbing Industry Expo. Having been a Perth resident in the early 90s Peter is pleased to be heading back for this special event.   His involvement in backflow prevention dates back to the 1980s. Becoming an early member of the BPAA and having actively contributed to the development of its state branches, he is widely regarded as an expert in backflow prevention.   Utilizing his expertise in cross-connection control, Peter dedicated over three years to collaborating with the Australian Building Codes Board in crafting the National Construction Code, Volume Three, the Plumbing Code of Australia, in partnership with state and territory entities. He has authored numerous articles in trade publications, both domestically and internationally, covering various water supply topics. As a Past President and Life member of the BPAA, Peter also serves as a board member of the American Backflow Prevention Association, representing the BPAA as a Director at large. During the first day of the expo, Peter will be leading the seminar on Backflow Prevention Regulatory Overview, which will focus on the development of backflow prevention and cross-connection codes and standards to ensure the public's access to safe drinking water. This session aims not only to provide insights into the Australian backflow prevention regulatory framework but will also raise discussions on why backflow prevention policies at the local government level vary inconsistently, despite their potential to save lives. On the second day of the expo, there will also be a seminar on Legionella, emphasizing the health risks posed by these bacteria when they grow and spread in human-made building water systems like showerheads and sink faucets.
