🌟 Exciting Highlights from the OHDSI Symposium in Rotterdam! 🎇 We recently had an amazing time at the OHDSI Symposium (June 1st-3rd) in Rotterdam, filled with inspiration, innovation, and unforgettable moments. The symposium was packed with engaging tutorials, insightful discussions, and invaluable networking opportunities. Some of our favorite moments included the successful ETL WG workshop led by our very own Data Engineer & Bioinformatician Anne van Winzum alongside Maxim Moinat (Erasmus MC) and Melanie Philofsky (Odysseus Data Services, Inc.) as well as a standout presentation by our Data Engineer Sofia Bazakou on the PHEMS consortium. We were also excited to showcase our work through posters highlighting DARWIN data quality and PHEMS use cases, which sparked some engaging discussions. 👇 Curious to know more about our experience at the symposium? NIH data sharing and discovery in Figshare 📈 📊 https://lnkd.in/efWahVg5 The National Institutes of Health new Data Management and Sharing Policy went into effect in January 2023 and strongly encourages researchers to deposit research data in established repositories such as Figshare where other researchers can find and reuse the data. In this webinar, we will present how Figshare meets the NIH’s ‘Desirable Characteristics for Data Repositories’ and how we are working collaboratively as part of the NIH Generalist Repository Ecosystem Initiative (GREI) to enhance support for NIH data sharing. A use case of OHDSI ATLAS in a high-throughput genome wide association study pipeline #OHDSISocialShowcase Lead: Craig Teerlink Team: Hamid Saoudian, Richard D Boyce, Philip Tsao, Michael Matheny, Marc Suchard, Kyle Hernandez, Robert Grossman, Scott DuVall Background: Infrastructure and data governance limitations have prevented widespread use of Million Veteran Program (MVP) data among the research community and has emerged as a critical barrier to success. Due to participant consent restrictions, MVP data cannot be distributed out to research teams. The VA Data Commons was introduced as a solution for scaling up appropriate access to MVP data and significantly boost computational capabilities. The VA Data Commons is a cloud-based analytic environment that allows VA-credentialed research teams to securely access and perform genome-wide association studies (GWAS) using MVP data. Our goal is to provide a “no-code” environment for users to create cohorts and run GWAS and break down barriers between phenotype specialists and genotype specialists. As such, we are interested in taking advantage of existing open-source tools to implement the GWAS pipeline. To this end, we have incorporated Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI)’s ATLAS tool for phenotype and covariate selection, the University of Chicago’s Gen3 platform for administration and infrastructure, and the University of Washington’s GENetic EStimation and Inference in Structured Samples (Genesis) R package for genome-wide association.
