🌎 The world remains dramatically off course to meet global climate goals, with recent assessments pointing to warming of 2.4-2.7C above pre-industrial levels by 2100. ⚡ In its recent report on how to get back on track, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said tripling renewables, doubling efficiency and slashing methane emissions 75% by 2030 would provide 80% of the emissions cuts needed for 1.5C. BREAKING: The Global Renewables and Energy Efficiency Pledge was just announced at #COP28, with the endorsement of 118 countries. Setting such a target at a global level is a critical milestone. It sets out a clear goal and focuses the world's climate efforts on accelerating the deployment of #renewableenergy— a cleaner and cheaper alternative to #fossilfuels. It is at this point that we should ask ourselves an important question: what policies do we need to further accelerate the transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy to realize our goal and limit global temperature rise to 1.5C?
