The Kentucky Affordable Housing Corporation held its 3rd Annual Golf Scramble June 18 at the Polo Fields in Louisville -- we were very pleased to be a sponsor for the event and breakfast! Our golf team didn’t win the scramble, but they put forward a great effort and had a lot of fun. Tammy Stansbury, who heads up development for our Kentucky office, helped organize the event. She is joined in the photo by Woda Cooper golfers (L to R) Alex Keller, Clay Cooper, Parker Zee, and Patrick Olding. Thanks for representing, team! The Kentucky Affordable Housing Coalition is made up of affordable housing developers, syndicators, financial institutions, architects, market analysts, realtors, attorneys, and property managers. The coalition promotes policy, education, and growth of affordable housing development through information sharing, networking, educational opportunities, and support.

A couple weeks ago Rolfe McCollister started this petition to turn City Park into a Central Park of Baton Rouge. I love golf and have played the City Park course numerous times. However, there is limited prime land in Baton Rouge and no other spot in my opinion that could be used to create a true Central Park. Parks in Austin, Houston, New Orleans, Chattanooga, Nashville and many other mid sized cities have become the life blood of the city bringing people together from all walks of life. I really feel that this is the right time to take action in conjunction with the Lakes project. It would be a great first step in retaining the talent, creating a vibrancy in the city, and growing Baton Rouge. Please sign the petition link below, post and share with others to create some buzz: https://lnkd.in/gVrAqgP8 “City Park, a wonderfully unique 100-plus-acre site, is the most beautiful tract of land in the heart of our community. This signature landmark—nestled next to the City Park and University lakes (now undergoing $50 million in improvements)—is conveniently located amid a diverse range of neighborhoods and the LSU campus, yet its central location and easy access to the interstate makes it accessible to residents throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. The City Park and University lakes are the most popular place in Baton Rouge to walk, bike and jog. Developing this site into a “central park” with rolling hills, expansive green spaces and mature trees would make it a perfect place for many activities enjoyed by families, couples, students, young adults and seniors—picnics, frisbee, flying kites, softball, football, kayaking, walking and much more. It would also make it a safer place with more activity. BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson put it best, recently saying parks “bring people together. In the days that we’re living, bringing people together is as important as ever.” The mediocre 9-hole golf course currently at City Park has limited appeal, is expensive to maintain, loses tax dollars and consumes most of the land on this spectacular site. The course should be closed, making way for a gem that all citizens in Baton Rouge can use. (Moreover, the 18-hole Webb BREC golf course is just 1.8 miles away.) The highest and best use for this signature site is a wonderful and spacious ‘central park’ for everyone to enjoy. Please support this petition and ask BREC, the mayor-president and Metro Council to join with the community to create a unique green space of excellence that coincides with their current efforts on the amazing Lakes Project. A spectacular central park would provide a quality-of-life attraction for our future we can all be proud of and enjoy all year long.” *An LSU design project https://lnkd.in/gqFHRcFq *BREC: conceptual design with no golf course https://lnkd.in/gbpUDK49 *The Lakes project concepts: https://lnkd.in/gM-ecb5N

🏘️ Update on Gilden Park community facilities A consortium of housebuilders has committed to new timescales for the delivery of outstanding community facilities at Gilden Park after we activated legal action. 🗣️ We have been in ongoing discussions with Barrett Homes (BDW Trading Limited), Persimmon Homes and Taylor Wimpey over the delivery of a sports pavilion and pitches, allotments, community centre and retail units in accordance with the planning obligations relating to the Gilden Park development (known as a Section 106 agreement). ⚖️ The consortium’s commitment comes after we had filed injunction papers in July with a court hearing set for this month. Our injunction sought to stop Gilden Park developers selling more houses until obligations were met or a suitable undertaking to provide the outstanding obligations was given to the court and the council. ➡️ New timescales for the delivery of the facilities have been submitted by the consortium. Failure to adhere to the timescales will breach the injunction. 🔎 Read the full story https://lnkd.in/eiJyX277

VANCOUVER, Feb. 5, 2024 -- As part of its strong support for an independent elected Vancouver Park Board, TEAM for a Livable Vancouver applauds a board member’s plan to push back legally against Mayor Ken Sim’s move to abolish it. TEAM believes Park Commissioner Tom Digby’s motion seeking funding for independent legal advice on the abolition is a positive move, and should be passed. Digby’s motion, coming before park board tonight (Feb. 5), asks for approval of $20,000 to retain a lawyer to assess the chances of over-ruling the mayor’s plan via judicial review. The motion also seeks to reverse city council’s historic encroachment on areas of park board authority, an issue so important to TEAM that it was an “action item” in its 2022 election platform. TEAM promised to “Restore park board authority over their operations and facilities by transferring finance, operations and facilities back under park board jurisdiction from the city’s planning, real estate and facilities departments.” Tonight’s motion is expected to pass, as Green Party Commissioner Digby and three former ABC commissioners, now independents, hold the balance of power on the board. Commissioners Brennan Bastyovanszky, Laura Christensen and Scott Jensen quit ABC when Sim reversed his election-campaign promise to improve the park board. The ABC majority on Vancouver City Council approved Sim’s plan last December, even though it meant eliminating the jobs of their six former ABC park board colleagues, who all campaigned with no mention of risk to their elected positions. TEAM members have opposed the abolition since the start, speaking out in force at the Dec. 13 council meeting where it was approved. They were also among the dozens of residents who spoke vehemently against Sim’s plan at a town hall meeting Feb. 1 hosted by the three non-ABC council members – Greens Peter Fry and Adriane Carr, and OneCity’s Christine Boyle. TEAM asserts that Ken Sim is misleading the public when he blames the park board for failing to maintain assets such as the Aquatic Centre or Kitsilano Pool. In fact, the city took over responsibility for maintaining park board assets years ago, and the failure is on the city’s shoulders. Sim’s plan to assume complete control of the parks and recreation system merely ensures the neglect will continue. He has also promised that abolishing the park board will save millions of dollars, but has never produced evidence about where the savings will come from. TEAM’s position on the elected park board is to strengthen and support it as the nearest thing Vancouver has to neighbourhood representation. “TEAM will support an elected park board by ensuring they have the required administrative structure and funding to properly manage the parks and recreation system,” TEAM’s website says. “This includes re-establishing the park board's independent planning, operations, and maintenance resources".
