Instilling leadership qualities within our students is something that we strive to achieve. Our students see themselves as future leaders and are encouraged to maintain that mindset so that they can be confident and motivated in their professional spaces on day. Queen, who is a Tomorrow Trust honours student currently studying quantity surveying at the University of Witswatersrand shares her perspective of leadership below. “I have been trying to nurture the future leader in myself by being a student leader at university. This allows me to be creative and think of great ways to serve the students of my faculty. I am also able to properly express myself to people while being respectful. I know how to deal with conflict and handle situations in a group setting. I believe that taking lead aligns with my aspirations of becoming a professional quantity surveyor because my line of work would require me to give clear instructions to colleagues on what would be expected of them to accurately complete a task. Meet Kamogelo, a Bsc Honours in Mathematical Science graduate and Tomorrow Trust Alumni🔥 Kamogelo is a young professional dedicated to continuous learning and professional development by actively taking steps towards upskilling herself in her free time. She draws her motivation from her beloved aunt. “I admire my aunt, who is an incredibly independent woman. Despite becoming pregnant in a village with limited resources, she persevered and went in to become a dentist. Not only did she achieve her goals, but she also worked tirelessly to open doors for her siblings, helping them access education and employment opportunities. She also raised her children to be independent and self-sufficient, and her grandchildren are following in her footsteps, adopting the same values of resilience and determination. She didn’t stop there – she continued to further her studies, constantly seeking to improve herself and expand her knowledge. A 4th-year Bachelor of Pharmacy Tomorrow Trust student, Wendy, is not only interested in sciences but also shares a passion for women empowerment. Wendy explains that women empowerment is the process of creating equal rights and opportunities for women, while recognising the value of their voices and experiences. This process is important in promoting gender equality and breaking down gender-based stereotypes and biases. “A strong community of women is important for providing support, encouragement, and resources for women to succeed in all aspects of life, while also promoting gender equality and driving social change,” shares Wendy.
