Very informative article that shares how IoT smart sensors can provide so much more value than just report on when someone is vaping. The right technology solution can combine these sensors into one unit, that also can effectively report on air quality issues that you never see, but your kids will feel the impacts. As David Antar referenced in this article, improper filters, incorrect air intact, faulty HVAC, leaks in ceiling spaces that create mold, the list goes on as to what could be impacting the air that our kids (or employees) take in every day. Simply knowing when these readings are out of the acceptable healthy threshold range is powerful info to have, as it allows those that receive this data to take the necessary corrective actions. Open a door/window, replace air filters, or make repairs if necessary. Most of the time the building is fine, but the scheduling for your return air is out of sync as to when it is needed most. Imagine an overcrowded classroom full of students on a June day. The longer they are there, CO2 levels skyrocket, the less productive they are as the class goes on. Class finishes, and of course, that's when the HVAC kicks in with fresh air. Not ideal, right? Have you ever been in a boardroom meeting and felt drowsy after 45 minutes? Same thing. Better way is to have an IoT smart sensor "read" the room to give real time environmental readings, so through a simple integration, your HVAC can kick in right away and push out some high quality O2 to keep your brain in high gear. The interesting thing is that because they don't capture any personal identifiable information (PII), you can place these in areas where traditional surveillance can't go due to privacy concerns (i.e. public washrooms, locker rooms, staff rooms, classrooms). Additional integration also allows you to tie these into your building's video management software (VMS) so you can tag the event that occurred in the private area, such as vaping, THC usage, aggressive behaviors, vandalism, with the security systems that are located in the public areas (hallways). You know have enough evidence to create accountability. Pretty cool, eh? And I know what you're thinking, but there is also a tamper sensor. The message here is whether it's your BAS, HVAC, or VMS, it can make all of those investments that much more efficient. There is still a lot more that I can touch on but I think that's enough for one day. Stay tuned for more. If you can't wait or have any questions, please feel free to DM me. I'd be happy to chat how we can help you create a safer, healthier, working or learning space for you and your team, students, employees, etc. IPVideo Corporation Backman Vidcom Motorola Solutions

Topic: IoT Smart Sensors Monitor Indoor Air Quality. In addressing prevalent #airquality concerns across #schools in the United States, the deployment of IoT smart sensors presents a viable solution. Initially implemented to combat the vaping epidemic and monitor areas inaccessible to video cameras, such as bathrooms, these sensors have transcended their original purpose. Extending beyond vaping detection, IoT #smartsensors are now pivotal in identifying substandard air quality within classrooms. Numerous school districts leveraging these sensors have gained insights into air quality issues previously unnoticed. Detected problems encompass faulty HVAC system startups, inadequate filtration, improper air intake, and even the impact of idling school buses outside classroom windows. Moreover, these sensors play a crucial role in assessing the effectiveness of building automation systems (BAS). Responsible for overseeing HVAC, electrical, lighting, shading, access control, security systems, and other interconnected systems, BAS efficiency is paramount. In the event of any discrepancies within the BAS or HVAC, IoT smart sensors promptly alert maintenance staff, facilitating swift remedial action.

School safety extends beyond preparing for emergencies like active shooter situations—it also involves creating a healthy learning environment for our students and staff. Did you know that poor indoor air quality in schools can significantly affect health and academic performance? IoT smart sensors, initially deployed to combat vaping in schools, are now proving invaluable in monitoring air quality within school premises. From detecting harmful chemicals and mold to ensuring proper ventilation, these sensors are playing a crucial role in safeguarding the health of students and staff. Studies by the EPA have shown that students in well-ventilated classrooms achieve higher scores in standardized tests. With IoT technology, schools are now identifying and addressing air quality issues they were previously unaware of, such as faulty HVAC systems and external pollution sources like idling school buses. By investing in smart sensors, schools not only enhance their emergency preparedness but also take a significant step towards preventing health issues related to indoor air quality. Let's prioritize our children’s health and safety by embracing this smart technology for a safer, healthier learning environment. 🍏📚🔍 #SchoolSafety #EdTech #IoT #PublicHealth #SmartSchools

Education is crucial for addressing the climate crisis. Therefore, it is amazing to see the positive impact of Cisco's partnership with the Department for Education: 📊 Through the school’s IT curriculum, students will have access to sensor data to help develop their digital skills and gain a broader understanding of their impact on the environment. 🌱 The school intends to use Cisco Meraki cameras on school grounds to help students observe and monitor the wildlife and local habitat, with time-lapsed footage of the gardens that students help nurture. 🔌 Network switches can be configured to automatically power-down overnight; lowering CO2 emissions, promoting energy efficiency, and reducing costs.
