While the term JET (Just Energy Transition) is well known by now, our CEO Dr Mathe more recently introduced the Balanced Just Energy Transition in his welcoming address at THE SANEDI conference late last year. The Just Energy Transition Investment Plan (JET IP) for the five-year period 2023-2027 sets out the scale for the investments needed for us to achieve the decarbonisation commitments as set out in our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC). In short, what is the rate at which South Africa can sustainably reduce our greenhouse gas outputs?   Asked to explain what the balanced part of the JET plans means, Dr Mathe said that “balanced” signifies that all technologies and key players must be considered in the country’s energy transition programme. Casting the net widely allows room for the private sector to play a significant part in supporting Eskom to overcome the electricity crisis and create new generating capacity. #JET #JustEnergyTransition #BalancedJET #ReduceGHG
